I mean can Google Maps on this phone show your location without any internet/GSM connection ?

it works on the internal GPS Module not the GSM Connection, And it's quite faster than Nokia Maps v2.0!

but you cannot view your location except if connected to the internet either by the internal wifi or by your mobile network internet.

Is there a GPS Tracker service compatible with GSM subscribers that costs about $60 per year or monthly?I wish to assist tranporters and logistic companies to track their devices with an affordable service.

try at&t's "telnav" product - but it is about $60/year per phone.

There is always confusion among these...

GPS is the Global Positioning System that uses satellite signals to triangulate one's location. It is not related to any cellular technology, but phones can be designed to include GPS as a feature.

GSM is Global System for Mobile Communications (originally Groupe Special Mobile), the internationally used standard for cellular phones.

GPRS is General Packet Radio Service, the 2G data communication method built into the GSM standard.

Audio monitoring: You can dial into the GPS unit and simply listen to the sounds around the unit.
Movement alert:When the unit stays immobile in a place for 3-10 minutes, then the unit will reply, it will send SMS "Move" along with a Geo-info to the authorized numbers. It will alarm one time in each setting.
SOS function: When holding the GPS Tracker you can press alarm button to send alert, and your position to the registered phone numbers.
Overspeed alert: When the target moves exceeding the speed you setted, the unit will send SMS+Geo-info to the authorized numbers.
Geo-fence. The unit will send the message to the authorized numbers when it breaches the district.

nokia n70 now that they have this gps device. look into window pocket pc device but do understand you might have to park and restart them as i feel they havnt made it to the mark yet. they still do crash some time in life.

Can i use GPS function in my NOKIA N82 without A-GPS coverage in network or without GSM coverage at all?

GPS service is available anywhere on the world as long as you have a clear view of the sky, so that the GPS receiver can get signals from the sattellites.

Now, given that you have a clear view of sky, your phone shud be able to find out its current latitude and longitude. But to be able to shw it on the map, you should have a mapping application. Some of these mapping applications get the map from the internet which requires GSM coverage and a data connection. But there are pplications which have offline maps on your phone which will be able to sho your current position on the map.

So, the answer to your question is YES, you can use your phone without any GSM coverage, as long as you have a mapping application which uses offline maps(Nokia maps can work on offline maps as long as you use the map downloader application to download the maps to your phone. Another good offiline application is smartcomgps)
