Which do you recommend: a Satnav on its own or one of those multijob things?

for your price range, a tom tom one.

I use a tom tom 700 (the 700 has full door-to-door europe maps), and have experience of the tom tom go, tom tom 300 and tom tom one. I use the speed camera database from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com.

Personal preference - I would not use a handheld with GPS. I dont like to have all my eggs in one basket.

there is a good forum at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com that covers all the satnav packages... If you want a handheld and gps package, I would suggest looking on the forums there for advice

I need a handheld with built in GPS. I know Fujitsu do them (LOOX N)

I think you may find there are a number of manifacturers that have models with inbuilt GPS now. There are a couple in the HP iPAQ range (http://www.hp.com), ASUS (http://www.asus.com)

I have a HP iPAQ but with a bluetooth GPS receiver and I love it. It depends which brand you prefer and which software you wish to run for the GPS.
