How do I pair my Blackberry cell phone to my Magellan Maestro GPS?

Where do I find the "alphanumeric passkey" for Magellan GPS that my Blackberry cell is asking me about?

Look at this link to see if it will help:

The passkey is something you punch into one device and must repeat on the second device.

Can I update the maps in my Magellan GPS?

I recently purchased a Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS. This is first GPS of this brand that I've gotten. Apparently the maps are stored on an SD card. Does Magellan provide updates for their GPSes? If so, does it usually mean buying a new SD card with updated maps on it?

When you get your gps usually you need to go to there website and see if theres any undates. Is according to what month the units was made and how long its been at the store. Just go to the Magellan website and see for an update and download it, and you will be fine.

What is the MOB feature used for on a Magellan 315 GPS?

What is the MOB feature used for on a Magellan 315 GPS?

I know it means man over board, but what is its intended purpose?

The Man Overboard feature is designed for marine use. If someone falls out of your boat, you can hit that button. The device will mark your current location as a waypoint and immediately start pointing you back to that location.

The intention behind it is if you're in moving water or open water it may be difficult to precicely figure out where that person fell out of your boat. This will help you get back to that spot quickly before they risk drowning.

Which seems to be better gps Magellan or Garmin?

Looking at Magellan roadmate 1440 and Garmin 255w. Both seem to be great systems, one might have ability the other doesn't and vice/versa.
After doing some research, guess the big thing comes down to the POI--- which is better, having 6 mill POI preloaded or ability to download/customize the POI.

Garmin is the top brand in North America. They have the strongest satellite system and can re-route fairly quickly. I would never compare a Magellan to a Garmin.

The only other GPS I would consider if i'm spending more than $150 would be a TomTom. The only problem there is they are a European brand and getting tech support or map updates is not easy. TomTom has the easiest User Interface though.

The 255w is a good model and very popular. It has multimedia, expandable memory, Text-to-Speech, only thing it is missing is hands-free calling.

I would definitely reccommend the Garmin though. However, if you start looking in to TomTom go for the TomTom 630. You can find it in Canada for about $299 (in Canada, not sure about the U.S.) and it is a top of the line model. It has almost everything except FM transmitter, which neither of the two you listed have.

Anyways, hope this helps.

  • Magellan Maestro 3100 Review (GPSmagazine.com)

Last month Magellan released the highly anticipated Maestro 4040 to mixed reviews . This month, Magellan has released the smaller, less expensive Maestro 3100. This 3.5" display, no-frills unit is aimed squarely at the budget-conscious consumer, and is hitting the street with pricing as low as $250.

Could this be the budget unit you've been waiting for? I put Magellan's Maestro 3100 through GPSmagazine's rigorous testing criteria and found out how Magellan's newest GPS stacks up against the competition.

3000-series Maestros have the smaller 3.5" screen while the 4000-series Maestros have the larger 4.3" display. Maestro 3100 is the most affordable Maestro, and as the entry-level unit, doesn't have many of the bells and whistles found on the more expensive Maestros. The 3100 includes map coverage for the continental US (lower 40 States), has a reduced POI database (750,000), no Text-to-Speech (so the unit doesn't announce actual street names), no Bluetooth, traffic, or voice recognition.
