My husbands work gave him a GPS phone- How can I go online and find his location?
LOL! Just call him!
Well if you dont trust your husband then you are shit out of luck. All GPS devices are receiver only and does not transmitt. Well... it can but GPS locates you using satellite and your husband' is not satellite orbiting the earth. Unless phone have built in beacon that announces his location which you will need receiver for.
Nokia has again set a standard for phones. This GPS demo is very cool....
In a phone such as the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 (AT&T), which has GPS, I understand that if you want to use it for turn-by-turn directions and so on, you have to add a service such as AT&T Navigator. But if you just wanted to know, for example, where you were, where the different directions are, do you need to buy and software/services, or does that work out of the box? Thanks!
On some phone (like the ones that run Windows CE, etc) you can download the application and data to the machine but you can't do it for all GPS phones.

With the current abduction and school incidents, I guess Im a little paranoid of my son's surroundings whether he is in school, playground or traveling with me and my wife. I have trained him on how to use our home phone and cell phone since he was 6 years old. He knows the do's and don'ts on how to use the phone especially in school. With the GPS technology I will be able to track down his whereabouts if I could not find him. Of course I will respect his privacy too. My biggest concern is that I want to make that he can contact his family in case of an emergency or he can call 911. I know that he is responsible enough but I want to get another opinion about this. Thanks for the input.
this is a personal choice for the parent. only you can make this decision. do not let fear rule your life and please don't teach your child to live in fear. teach him what to do in case of emergency.

ok I work in very ruff area for cell service and theres a old timer I work with that has a old motoral classic II on the verizon network and I want to get one hooked up and they told me they do it any more due to gps 911 capable crap is there any way at all around this or a big phone that gets good service help I want to hook one of these up they work great even though there huge and old I just want a good working phone
Unfortunately no. The e911 law that went in effect sometime ago forbids a cell phone carrier from activating a non compliant phone on the network.
Would the phone work if reactivated, absolutely, but the government forbids it now.
I am currently with Cingular/AT&T and I would like to buy a new unlocked phone that has GPS or some type of google maps application. I actually have two questions about this: First, what is a good compatible phone? Second, how exactly does the application work when it is on your cell phone? Do I need a data plan? Or is it just an application that I can use for free? Thanks in advance!
Nokia N95 has a inbuilt antenna for GPS...
Yes you need a data plan... i would suggest you unlimited because maps functionality will cause huge bandwidth usage...
