what is the difference between a street pilot gps & agarmin nuvi recevier?

The nuvi series is newer than the Streetpilot line and generally offers more, and more advanced features. But you can still get a high-end Streetpilot like a c550 or c580 that has a lot of bells and whistles too, such as text-to-speech and Bluetooth.

One big difference, regardless of price, is that the Streetpilot is bulkier than the nuvi. This may not seem like much, but you can easily slip a nuvi into your pocket but can't do that with a Streetpilot. Also, the Streetpilot being heavier tends to "droop" if you are not careful with attaching the bracket/mount in the car.

Lastly, there are some Streetpilots like the c330 that are discontinued and selling at low prices now. They look similar on the outside, but they have inferior receivers (sometimes lose signals) and older maps. I would stay away from those.

I own a Garmin Street pilot GPS for my car?

If my GPS is stolen is there a way it can be tracked?

No, because it doesn't transmit, only receives. It has no way of transmitting its position to something that could relay its location to the owner. Your best bet is to copy down the serial number and etch it in somewhere on the unit itself and hope that it ends up in a pawn shop that will check the database if it gets stolen. I had one stolen out of my car (where they did damage to the car which cost 5x as much to fix than the GPS was worth) and I had the serial number written down. 5 years later I still haven't got it back and I probably never will. Hide it real good! There are some not nice people out there...

I just purchased Co-pilot (GPS) but can't get it to work with Windows Vista. Are there problems with this?

Does Vista have a problem with some programs? Should I downgrade to XP? I am a trucker and on the road and don't have a lot of time to fool with this problem.

go to co-pilot website look in support
if you down grade to xp you will have nothing but problems

Pilot GPS Update worth it?

We have a 2004 Pilot with the in-dash GPS. It seems pretty outdated. Will the update disk ($185 from Alpine) make a substantial difference of the quality of the GPS? I know I can get a portable unit for very reasonable now, but wasting the in-dash feature that came with the car seems like such a waste and just doesn't set well with me. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's worth it. My Acura dealer said that updated the DVD year 5 years is sufficient for the average person... if you were a realtor, you would need it every year. https://store.alpine-usa.com/Hondadvdsales/naviorder.php Even though a portable GPS is great (I have a Garmin Nuvi), you must pay $60+ to update the maps. You bought the Pilot with Navi, so don't waste that great feature.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the New York City Department of Transportation are rolling out a pilot project that will use satellite tracking and GPS devices to estimate the arrival times of buses along 34th Street in Manhattan. Digital displays, which will be installed at bus stops along the street, will countdown to the next arriving bus.

The technology is being provided for free by Long Island-based Clever Devices , which installed a similar system in Chicago in 2006.
