Edit: This is from the review of TomTom One:
The good: The TomTom One features a sleek design and is simple to use. It offers accurate text- and voice-guided directions and is affordably priced.
The bad: The TomTom One's points-of-interest database is a bit outdated and doesn't support text-to-speech functionality.
So what I'm trying to understand is - it says it uses a voice but doesn't support text-to-voice... what's the difference?
Hey Sabrina! Text to Speech means that the GPS will actually talk to you, for example giving directions. (Turn left now.....)

Critical Golf does a great job of providing unbiased reviews and head-to-head comparisons of GPS devices. They rate each device on categories like the available features, how easy it is to set-up the device, course coverage, ease-of-use, and value.
The golf GPS devices they review include the SkyCaddie, Callaway uPro, Garmin Approach G5, GolfBuddy Tour, OnPar, Sonocaddie, Golf Guru and others.

It looks rock solid to me and a geat price if that's the model you want. SiRF III, NAVTEQ maps...you have to spend $500 on a Garmin Nuvi 350 to get anything close to that. In GPS its all about the maps in my opinion. TomTom fails in the US as they don't use NAVTEQ maps. I may buy one of those myself.
I'm looking to buy a portable CAR GPS for a loved one at Christmas, and am unfamiliar with the various different types, options, etc.
Is there somewhere I can find a "Consumer Reports" style report on this type of product?
Consumer reports would be a good place to start
