The average GPS receiver does not have a transmitter and will not allow you to track your truck or car so you will need a real GPS tracking device.

Some vehicle have OnStar which can find the location of your vehicle and some use car dealers may install tracking device to keep track of their property till it it paid off.

It really depends on what type of tracking device you have purchased. Some GPS tracking device only record where the vehicle has been and you have to remove the tracking device to retrieve the route information. There are other GPS tracking device that uses GPRS and you can track it almost real time on the Internet, about every 2 minutes or so.
There are also GPS devices that uses both GPRS and WiFi like the DASH navigation system.

There are device like TomTom that you can sign up with TomTom Plus service and track your friends that have TomTom Devices.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, but are you trying to track where your car is from your home computer? This is not how the GPS receiver in your car works. In your car, the device only receives signals from satellites, which it uses to determine its position. There are computer programs that can do the same thing with an attached receiver. For example, if your car doesn't have GPS, you can carry around your laptop and a GPS receiver and map your location.

My car dealer has the power to disable cars that have late payments.
I purchased the car in Nashville, TN and I am in Atlanta Ga. I just need a few more days to make the payment that's why I need to BUY time, literally. How far can I be tracked and disabled?

You need to put the car in a Farraday cage- look that up in google. It will block radio signals. Next best is a structure like an underground garage where you cannot get radios to work. GPS covers the world. Whether they disable it or you hide it, you'll still be unable to use the car.

Maybe it would be better for you to call them and tell them you need a few days extra time. If you play it slick and you need to work out a deal, you're not going to earn any trust. If you just be upfront, you stand better chances.

We bought a car from a "buy here pay here" lot and we were notified that the car had a Gps tracking device on it. Is this legal? I kind of understand why they do it but it also seems like an invasion of privacy to me.

I don't know if its legal in Kentucky but the use of the device to locate the car if you default on the agreement. Once the agreement is made and paid off then the device is removed. I live in MD and went to a BHPH dealer and I had the starter disabler system installed until it was paid off. The device was removed once the car was owned by me.
