gps tracking

My boss gave us new cell phones. How can we tell if the phones have GPS tracking? If it does have GPS tracking can it pinpoint our exact location.

Just about every cell phone now has GPS capabilities. So if you were just given them, then most likely they are GPS enabled.

Discerning the location depends though. Ive seen some GPS that can locate within a general area, and others that can locate what street corner you are on, so I can't answer that part of the question. sorry.

1. most phones do have GPS now.
2. I agree, asking the boss or looking it up will 100% answer if it has it
3. Most companies with GPS enabled phones do use uit to track locations of employees that may not be where they need to be. I know this because a close friend of mine is actually the person being paid by his company to look up where people are.
4. And yes, it just shows your location in the area, not necessarily what building you are in(assuming you are in a city)

They sell gps tracking devices for hundreds of dollars, but isn't there a way to just track the current gps navigation that is used in a car? Why have 2 devices if you can use the current one. Don't both use satelite to get locations etc?

A GPS device only needs to be a receiver to be a fully functional GPS Navigational System. Most GPS devices have only receiver capabilities.

To have a functional GPS Tracking System the GPS device must also be able to communicate with a tracking service information about its' location. Therefore the GPS device must be both a Receiver and a Transmitter.

I cannot seem to find, what I would consider, the right product for my non-motorized fleet of courier vehicles.

What I am trying to find is a magnetized GPS receiver that is small, discreet, and requires no ignition/battery hookups. I need a real-time tracking system which remains inactive within a designated "fenced" location unless I require an on-demand update of the unit's location. Once the fence has been crossed, I would like the unit to fully activate with real-time and automatic tracking as an anti-theft device.

I know that GPS tracking is relatively new, but I can not find any product or service that combines all of these needs together.

I assume you are talking about GPS on bicycles, golf carts, or similar devices.

If these are your employee you could require Nextel devices to be carried with them for common business communications. There are a number of GPS options available for Nextel. Some work well, some don't; largely dependent on the quality of coverage in your work area.

In coverage is spotty, you are off the interstate or very rural then you will need an actual GPS device hardwired to the vehicle and it will require 12 volts, installation, etc.

It has been my experience that most of the value of GPS tracking for employees comes from behavior changes when they know they are being monitored. It is not nearly as valuable to play "catch and scold" as it is for them to know you can document all their movements.

I have a GPS tracking device that only works for 30 hours. I need to erase the information that is on it, but don't have the software. Can the GPS be reset to delete information?

Depending on what type of GPS tracking device you have, not Knowing the brand it would be difficult.
I would say probably call the company that you purchased the tracking device from and as for support or a copy of the software to view the log file.
I am thinking you have one of those data tracking device that does not report your position on the internet, if you have one of those units, the information is stored in a server somewhere and who ever is tracking you can see you real time on a computer where you have been.
Best bet is to contact the tracking manufacturer to find out what is the correct process.
