Should I purchase a sattelite GPS system or preloaded GPS?

I am very new to this, I've never used a GPS system before and I plan to take a few road trips this summer. I was told that I should purchase a Sattelite navigation system because the GPS systems with preloaded maps can often get you lost and make your trip a nightmare. Would anyone know the difference and what would be the best one to buy? Thanks

I need a gps system asap for a road trip and no nothing about it?

want to do a map from ny to fl and stop in nc and need it speak directions. I own a palm tungsten t3 and also am getting a new phone and don't know if I can get a program on them.

I agree with the other reviewers and get a standalone Garmin unit, either the Garmin i5 or the C330 are the least expensive and the best bang for the buck, in the 300 dollar range.

If you want to do that with your PDA it may cost just as much after you buy the receiver, the maps, and the software and the mounting kit.

If you are computer literate get the Garmin i3, or the Garmin c320, the are the same units as the i5 and the C330 only they don't have built in memory to hold all the maps. This is easily overcome by purchasing a memory card and loading the maps on yourself, same thing but less expensive.

Amazon has the best prices, plus no tax and free shipping.
They are very fast as well, you'll have the unit in 2 days. Also you can read many reviews on amazon about the different units.
