I work for a water utility and we have an Oracle Acoounting software (I know, I know) I want to create an interactive GIS with Real time GPS for service calls. HELP!!
what you need is AVL (automated vehicle locating). there are a number of manufacturers that offer this kind of system including Trimble. While I work for a Trimble dealer we don't handle this particular application. go to: http://trimble.com/tms/ to learn more and find a dealer in your area that handles this.
Please turn captions ON to view instructions. This was done in 2008, I now use a program called quot;GPS Utilityquot; instead of the quot;KML ...
I work for a county government in the GIS department.
We're trying to get some cash for a GPS Data Collector and i've been told to come up with a list of possible uses.
SO...
if anybody out there can think of anything let me know.
i just want as many possible uses as you can come up with
couple examples to get you started:
Marking utility poles
- septic tanks
- dry hydrants
i should mention that it's a very rural/agricultural county but as i've said, i'll take anything
Property lines, easments, topographical surveying?
my mobile supports GPS.I want to see its utility
well, you need a MAP application in order to really test the GPS.
Example, I have the N95 and I have NOKIA MAPS 2.0 on it (with CANADA maps installed since i live in canada). Next, I open Nokia Maps and went to Options -> Connect to GPS then I waited for a very very very long time until my coordinates were calculated and displayed in Nokia Maps.
Basically all you need to do is go outside where you have eye-to-eye contact with the sky (cause the sattlite is at the top of the sky/clouds) then you need to connect to GPS (see phone's manual) using a MAPS application (there are tons of maps application like Google Maps for free). And WAIT A LONG TIME to get your coordinates.
Price:

$0.00
Uses configurable units, grid-systems (UTM and MGRS), and datums
Marks your current location and helps you navigate back
Reports on the status of your phone's GPS subsystem
Resets your GPS and re-downloads GPS assistance data to speed up GPS fixes
Calibrates your phone's sensors
If those pocket belts (fanny pack) ever became fashionable the obvious evolution would be the utility belt. So what would put in yours?
No grappling hook. When would you ever use it? I would put thing like:
spry hand sanitizer, CPR kit, digital thermometer, stopwatch, Box cuter, 50 feet silk cable, deodorant, 5 hour energy drink, power bar, compass, GPS, lighter, spray insulation, liquid nitrogen (cleaner), giger counter, whatever
You know, maybe not all that’s on the list, but most of that stuff could really com inn handy
And if there was a website that you gave them you waist size and what you would put in you belt and they make it custom. Well I think that would just be cool
how much space do you think you would have? and spray insulation, what would that before, and don't you think 50 feet of silk cable is kind of bulky and useless, not to poke holes in your they, i would keep pencils, calculator, art supply, cupons, that kind of thing
i'm used to the 152 and i just got signed off in the 172.
how do you work the GPS (its a bendix king, backlit, not color, GPS) in detail. and on the RPM gauge there is a part of the green arc that goes from 2500 to 2700rpm that looks different from the rest, is this area of the tachometer for takeoffs only or is it ok to cruise on a cross country with the engine running at 2700RPM? also, is it bad to do weightlessness in the plane at max gross or do you have to be in the utility category?
Lets be straight about flying aircraft. Every aircraft will have a POH or AFM unless you are flying a very old aircraft. In the aircraft flight there should be a section of equipment. The aircraft must have a manual for the GPS and to understand how it works is a requirement before you operate the aircraft. I would recommend you sit down with a flight instructor and have them go over the GSP and any other system until you fully understand it before operation.
As for going weightless it is not recommended. Aircraft may have a safety factor of 1.5% built in, but that was whey they were new just off the assemble line. Over the years corrosion, scratch, dents, gouges and a list of other thing degraded the 1.5 safety factor. The aircraft you are operating may not be at the 1.5, but may only be 1 or less because of age or lack of gook or no maintenance being performed.
