hand held gps system

Does anyone know if I can use a held hand GPS system when traveling to Panama City, Panama? This may seem?
like a ridiculous question, but in Panama, even THOUGH all streets in the city are marked, most Panamanian people do NOT refer to the actual name of the street when giving directions. Why? I don't know. Panama is very high tech, very modern, just a incredibly fast growing metropolis. But, I don't know if, GPS system made by the companies has a satellite system, infra structure readily available for Latin America. I don't know much about GPS systems, but I know enough that street and city and provence names of countries have to be entered into some satellite system in order for the gps to work. Anyway, any suggestions about if I can use a GPS, hand held, in Panama?

In Panama, we dont have that system yet, but if you want to move, people help you with the addresses on the street.

That would be interesting to have that system in Panama.

i was wonderng what would be a good but cheap gps unit for hikes and bike rides. also I was wondering if any special plans need to be bought for one

If you don't need maps and just want to record tracks and waypoints, you can get away with using the Garmin eTrex H for about US$80. If you want a handheld that can store maps and do turn-by-turn directions as well, go for the eTrex Legend HCx or the GPSmap 60Cx.

I am in the market to purchase a hand held GPS system. I am interested in the Garmin eTrex Venture Cx, but I seek other opinions. Which brand and model have worked well for you?

I recommend looking at the Garmin GPSmap 60Cx, 76Cx, or eTrex Legend HCx. They all have color screens, accept memory cards for saving data or maps, and can calculate areas.

Need more specifics. What do you want to be able to do with GPS? Drive your car with it? Go fishing? Go camping? What type maps do you need loaded, road or terrain? Is color important?
