magellan gps 2000

I was driving in NYC the other day with my GPS system and all of a sudden it started acting crazy! I was using it to help me find my way back to the Lincoln Tunnel and all of a sudden it started to fast foward and complete the trip. It didn't stop there either, it just kept moving really fast in different places, like it had a glitch or something. It seems fine now, but I'm very worried the next time I need it for a big trip. What caused it to do this? Has anyone else had this issue with the Magellan RoadMate 2000?

Mine did it once. I powered down and rebooted and it worked fine. I was on a trip at the time and it resumed like nothing had happened. I was nervous for a long time but that has been several months ago and the problem never repeated.

I have a magellan roadmate 2000 gps and I was wondering how quickly will it become outdated and when it does, can I download/purchase an upgrade for it?

i actually own one of those. granting this is my first gps, i find the roadmate very reassuring. i never have to travel with a boat load of maps printed from google and i have the confidence to wander about looking at the built in POI.
btw. magellan did reach his destination, albeit approx 3200mi off-course. he was killed by a tribal leader Lapu- Lapu.

I am wildlifer from chandrapur and needs a GPS for my conservation and protection tasks. I have searched Magellan Triton 2000 GPS model on the net. It has given 2 MP Camera, voice recorder, and flashlight inbuilt. I think it may right for me.
My problem is that I dont know anything about GPS systems. I cant understand its technicals. So your help is expected. You can help me by telling if it is worth helpful in my task or not. and other details by reviewing it. If anybody already using this model. then its most welcome.

I would suggest avoiding the Magellan Triton even though it sounds like it would be good for your work. The Triton has had many problems since it was released last year. The Triton crashes, locks up, has poor battery life, and operates slowly. Also, there have been reports of not all the features of the 2000 working correctly. Even though it would be more items to carry, I would suggest going with a different GPS receiver, preferably a Garmin. The Legend HCx or 60Cx from Garmin are reliable GPS receivers. You can carry the camera, voice recorder, and flashlight in a waist pack.

I have a Magellan Roadmate 2000 vehicle GPS (got it for Christmas). It is suction cupped onto the windshield, and has a car adaptor for power.

When the adaptor is plugged both into the cigarette lighter and the unit, my FM and AM radio stations get much more staticky, with wierd buzzings and such. As soon as I unplug the adaptor from either the unit or the cigarette lighter, it stops.

Obviously the power or something is causing the interference, but is this normal? Is something broken or malfunctioning? Magellan customer support is virtually non existant so I''ve gone to the next best thing...the people! Thanks for your help.
It may be operating on the same megahertz as the first responder said, but also I'd be curious why I notice it on some other stations too that are in different spots on the dial?

hertz is the answer, It is probably operating on the same megahertz as the radio station you are tuned to. Check the ground inside your power outlet, for cigarette ashes possibly making a poor connection also.. Many electrical accessories interfere with factory computers and radios, such as cell phones can cause static in speakers on newer vehicles. Good luck.
