I need one of these. I don't need bluetooth or voice to text but still want a good one. I heard the Garmin lock up sometimes. What would you recommend and why. Thanks.
Hi Captain Dave,
I would go with the Garmin in a heartbeat. We use them all the time and never have a problem.
Right now a great buy at Amazon is the Garmin 250W. A great wide screen display. No Bluetooth, voice to text or movie shows - just a good GPS. It comes preloaded with maps of the US & Canada, has a very nice intuitive user interface and is only $235 postpaid. It is a great buy.
If you don't need maps of Alaska or Canada get the 200W for $200

Check out this pre-release in-car / on-road review of the Magellan Premium Car Kit for iPhone 3G/3GS or iPod Touch 2G#39;s. This kit is scheduled ...
I think the Magellen mapped better routes and the Garmen takes forever to acquire satellite signals when I'm in a large city. Before I take the Garmen back, I was hoping to hear what others are experiencing with these or other GPS models.
thanks in advance
I travel quite a bit and use Tom-Tom. The maps and directions are very good.

I am wanting to purchase a hanheld GPS unit that I can use when going atv/dirtbike riding in the forest. But also to use on the road. I've checked out both and they both do those two things but I want to hear from you people.
I've played with MY magellan Explorist, and then with my friends Etrex with Electronic Compass, and when it comes to EXTREME precision, he won..... Although I haven't played with the Triton, I'd say GO GARMIN ! :) (That's what i'm going to do from now on)

My father bought me a Magellen GPS system for my birthday and it was stolen from me te other day. My friend said I could turn on a tracking device to find it how would i go about doing that?
Your GPS knows where it is, but unfortunately it has no way to tell you.
They are all about the same for accuracy and also have almost equal functionality.
The biggest difference you will find between them is the price and user interface. If you're looking to purchase a new GPS you shouldn't worry about the brand too much and go with one that has a good price with the features you're looking for.
There is however one brand that I will never buy and that is Magellan because of their complete lack of customer service. I have had experience with their total lack of customer service through their professional line of GPS devices and that is the reason I will never buy from them.
