maps for magellan gps

I recently purchased a Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS. This is first GPS of this brand that I've gotten. Apparently the maps are stored on an SD card. Does Magellan provide updates for their GPSes? If so, does it usually mean buying a new SD card with updated maps on it?

When you get your gps usually you need to go to there website and see if theres any undates. Is according to what month the units was made and how long its been at the store. Just go to the Magellan website and see for an update and download it, and you will be fine.

I bought a magellan explorist 500LE and I was wondering if there is any Maps of central America, preferably Costa rica. They need to be fairly detailed also. Thanks

Magellan makes a product called Worldwide Basemap, but it is not very detailed. I've heard some bad reviews in one forum I frequent, and I just saw on Amazon that the reviews weren't that great over there either.

As far as I know, Magellan itself does not produce maps of Central America. In some countries there are companies that produce GPS-compatible maps, so you may want to try searching for a company in Costa Rica that might be making maps compatible with your eXplorist.

I have this (Magellan 1200 gps) but about 4 days ago i lost the SD card; therefore i went to buy it yesterday at Best buy, so i bought the SD card for $25 but i was told that i should have the map downloaded to the SD card for $60..i was just wondering if there was any websites that i can download the map from for free.....i would appreciate that if someone gives me an answer..Thank you

To the best of my knowledge, Magellan DOES NOT offer map download for the Magellan RoadMate 1200.
I would guess the BestBuy salesman maybe mistaken.

Contact BestBuy for assistant since losing the SD card is an issue and Magellan need to find a way to help you if possible.
You should not have to pay $60 for the map download since you already paid for the maps already and it is not an upgrade.

Which one offers maps to Canada?

Navigon 2100 does not cover Canada. They have another model, the 2120, which does.
Don't know about Magellan.

I just bought a refurbished Magellan Maestro 3225. Magellan doesn't allow you to download their map update for free with refurbished units. Is there somewhere on the web I can find these updates without paying 80 bucks?
