I would like to know if there is a way to get free GPS maps for Samsung i780. If so please tell me how!
If you install Google maps(with the "My Location" feature), you can get real time maps with your location accurate up to 20 feet.
Find your lost Android cell phone at www.mycelltracker.com and if you are a developer go to http for more tutorials
Specifically, do these maps generally tend to have fairly extensive retail/restaurant/business listings? I have used the Hertz NeverLost system and was pretty pleased with it as it had a pretty large database of business listings and was pretty current. I want to know if the typical GPS manufacturers can compare with this in regards to their POI maps.
The NeverLost system is made by Magellan, so what it has will be on par with what is produced by Garmin and TomTom as well. All of these GPS manufacturers get their data from the same two companies - TeleAtlas and NAVTEQ. The Point of Interest data tends to be more out-of-date than the road data, so you have to take their currency and positional accuracy with a grain of salt. About the GPS receiver itself, I recommend going with Garmin or TomTom, as Magellan has abysmal customer support that consists of off-shored script readers.
Price: $449.99
NOTE: Model number on the box is 1370T because the traffic receiver is included; however, the model number on the device itself is 1370 as the "T" in 1370T refers to the additional component
Bluetooth wireless technology enables hands-free calling with a compatible phone; included traffic receiver provides North America traffic information
Pedestrian navigation capability enabled through optional CityXplorer maps; ecoRoute suggests fuel-efficient routes to save drivers money and fuel
Widescreen ultra-slim GPS design with 4.3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display; interface features improved graphics and a new slide control for menu operation
Pre-loaded with City Navigator North America and Europe NT maps, and public transit mode allows you to navigate using buses, tramway, metro, and suburban rail systems
When you type my address into google maps or mapquest it gives the wrong location. This is namely due to the fact that the street I live on was built 5 years ago. It is an extentsion of an existing street and it shows up on the aerial photos if you change to that view. Is there anyway to contact the vendors who provide this info. to Google, MapQuest and other GPS devices. If people use what is there, they wind up on the wrong side of a busy street and it is one of those "you can't get there from here" situations, w/o doing a lot of turns.
Many thanks.
There are two companies who provide the majority of the street data to the GPS companies and companies providing mapping services like Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, and MapQuest. Those two companies are Tele Atlas and NAVTEQ. Both of those companies have online tools where you can report errors found in their databases.
Typically the GPS device or the mapping service will have a copyright tag somewhere that will indicate which mapping service they got their data from. For example Garmin, Magellan, and the Google Maps website use NAVTEQ data primarily. TomTom, Mio, and the Google Maps API use Tele Atlas data.
You can read a comparison of the two companies here:
http://www.gpsreview.net/navteq-vs-tele- atlas/
For Tele Atlas corrections you can report them via their MapInsight program here:
http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com/
For NAVTEQ corrections you can report them via their MapReporter program here:
http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-ex ternal/
In both cases those companies go through lots of work to evaluate the validity of changes before they are implemented. Also it can take a long time for the downstream provider (Google Maps, etc) to *implement* changes they receive from the vendors, even if the vendor accepts the change quickly. In other words if you submit a correction today, don't expect to see that change reflected tomorrow... or next week... in some cases it can take a year or more to validate a change, distribute the new information, and have the downstream provider implement that change.

It's been 6 years since they started building the subdivision. It doesn't appear on any online map or gps. There are newer subdivisions that show up on yahoo or google maps. How do I go about getting my street(s) put on a map?
try this www.wikimapia.org
I live in a fairly new condo complex. They are coming up on their 3 year anniversary of being built. When I type my address into any GPS or online mapping service, it says "address not found". How does one get this updated so that my address will show up?
You should try Windows Live Maps. Live Maps usually does the best job of giving the latest info. And the quality of their maps is quite superb : http://maps.live.com/
And if it still doesn't show up, you could press the "Feedback" link at the very bottom.
First drop down arrow : Select "Problem with listings"
2nd drop down arrow : Select "Cannot find an address" or the one right under that.
And tell them what the problem is, the current address, and all that.
Hope this helps.
