I'm planning on purchasing a gps in-car system. I would like a really good one, but I don't want to just throw ;my money away. Which system can I get the most bang for the buck?
TomTom One is a good one , they run about $250 now . Garmin , TomTom and Magellan are the the most well bought brands . I have the TomTom One and its very accurate and reliable. Get the base models in any particular brand , because added features you may never use drive up the price.
I put the Amazon links for these top Garmin Nuvi GPS below so you can check out more reviews: Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth ...

i was thinking, is it possible to hook up the GPS system directly to my tweeters? - the little speakers near my mirrors. - They are not connected to anything right now.
I was thinking if i could buy one of those mini speakers that plug into ipods or mp3 players
like this
http://www.amazon.com/Coby-CS-MP27-Porta ble-Stereo-Speaker/dp/B000P1QYT0/ref=sr_ 1_4/102-2882929-7322503?ie=UTF8&s=el ectronics&qid=1189299943&sr=1-4< br />
and then cut the wires, and just connect the wires to the tweeters.
would this cause any electrical shortages or problems??? would it even work? (stock 99 civic tweeters)
the gps system would be hooked into the charging cable via cigarette lighter as well
let me know!
and thanks!
OH and if u can email me back caffiendx27@yahoo.com thats where i get my emails!!!!

Get an FM modulator and run the headphone output to it and use an FM frequency to hear it through the system. You won't be able to listen to anything else while doing this though. Many of these just plug into the lighter.
Price: $219.99

Over 8 million points of interest and see branded icons on the map as you navigate.

i have a portable GPS system, Mio c220. I cant really hear it that well so i want to hook it up to my car stereo. theres a headphone jack, im assuming u do something with that... BUT WHAT??? HELP :D
i meant CAR SPEAKERS not car stereo. or whatever.
You'll need an aux input on your stereo to get the GPS to talk to you through the speakers. Most stereos (especially on older factory stereos) don't have an aux in, but you could do it with a tape adapter or a FM modulator. Problem with all of those things is, you will only get the GPS, no radio, tape or CD. There may be a way to crack open your head unit and hook up the GPS to play with the radio or CD, but it would be very hard, you'd practically have to be an electrical engineer to figure it out (I'm not... Sorry)

And why would you say it's the best?
Here is my opinion after reviewing several GPS devices. I think Garmin products are the best and I will list a few reasons why.
I think you need to first figure out what your needs are in a GPS device and the purpose of having one. Then what specific features are you looking for, such as bluetooth, real time traffic, weather, mp3 songs. Then what price range are you looking for?
After all of this I can tell you my experience.. I choose the Garmin Street Pilot C330. I paid 399.00 and here are my reasons:
1) Simple functions and easy to use.
2) Able to mount it on the window.
3) Price range 400-500
4) Reliability
5) I did not want Bluetooth, weather, real time traffic, or other extras.
6) Battery life strong
Some drawbacks to the device:
1) Locations not always accurate need to update maps
2) Viewing screen against the sunlight can be difficult to read
3) Bulky
4) It can take a few minutes to load the calculation to the destination. I wish it loaded much faster.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my GPS. I can truly say that it has helped out alot and reduced time. I think GPS prices have dropped significantly and now I would get the Garmin Nuvi 350 or 660 since it has everything I have but more... I would read customer reviews but stick with Garmin!
Here is a website that might be helpful:

PS: I would also go to CNET reviews , which are good too!
What would you recommend getting? Please answer only if you actually have it or have heard about it, no random guessing =) Thanks!!
For $500 you can get ALL the extras -- a traffic receiver, mp3 player, FM transmitter, text to speech, hands-free calling, voice address input, slideshow of your own pictures, remote control and European maps included. That would be the TomTom GO 920T or GO930T. (The T is for the traffic receiver. You can get the same GPS without the T also.) From there you can only go down.
