portable car gps

I just got my first car and need portable GPS. Which retailer should I buy it from to get good deal on a good one?
Walmart? Best Buy? Costco(i have membership)? or any Trustable online retailers??

Garmin is a best gps system and popular gps, Garmin has a simple controls - simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, has a turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and more feature.

I suggestion a Garmin nuvi model is a 255W, 760 (Popular GPS).

255W: same as 205W but has text-to-speech (you get turn by turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. "turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way", rather than merely "turn left in 50 feet")), 4.3-Inch diagonal touch screen color display, etc.

I'm deciding whether to buy a GPS or get one in a new car installed.
How long can you keep the portable GPS, maybe for a long time, about 10-20 years. That's how long, I hope I can keep one if I buy one.

you can keep it as long as you want. you can download software updates from the internet to keep the maps current.

the top of the line portable one I'm looking at is a mere 600 bucks and it offers a ton more features and better looking maps than the factory option, making me think the auto maker should stick to making cars and not GPS units.

still, I like how its cleanly integrated into the car, the portable mounts on the windshield and looks a bit tacky.

the factory also costs 2,000 dollars.

which one is worth it?

I would definitely go for the portable gps system because you can transfer it to different cars and if you say it's that much nicer, isn't it better to save yourself over one grand for something that might look what you think is tacky?? Besides, gps systems are becoming really popular so I highly doubt if your gonna be the only one. My dad has a portable one and he loves it cuz he has two cars and my mom has her car too. Anyways...don't waste your money for a smooth line. :D

I live in houston, TX and i want to drive west TX....Odessa, TX to be exact... I plan on buying a Portable GPS and diving there, so I need to know if its accurate or will it leave me in the middle of no where ? Im really bad with directions, so Any answer is greatly appreciated ♥

they are really accurate...there are endless models to choose from and they calculate your posotion down to about 10 to 20 feet from where you are

I have a Garmin iQue 3600 and a Quest that you can load either map set into. You have to buy it wit the US maps, then order the Euro maps from Garmin and load them up as needed.

I believe that you can do the same thing with an of their other models.
