If my GPS is stolen is there a way it can be tracked?

No, because it doesn't transmit, only receives. It has no way of transmitting its position to something that could relay its location to the owner. Your best bet is to copy down the serial number and etch it in somewhere on the unit itself and hope that it ends up in a pawn shop that will check the database if it gets stolen. I had one stolen out of my car (where they did damage to the car which cost 5x as much to fix than the GPS was worth) and I had the serial number written down. 5 years later I still haven't got it back and I probably never will. Hide it real good! There are some not nice people out there...

what is the difference between a street pilot gps & agarmin nuvi recevier?
PACIFIC BMW ACCESSORY FEST ~ BMW ISETTA

The nuvi series is newer than the Streetpilot line and generally offers more, and more advanced features. But you can still get a high-end Streetpilot like a c550 or c580 that has a lot of bells and whistles too, such as text-to-speech and Bluetooth.

One big difference, regardless of price, is that the Streetpilot is bulkier than the nuvi. This may not seem like much, but you can easily slip a nuvi into your pocket but can't do that with a Streetpilot. Also, the Streetpilot being heavier tends to "droop" if you are not careful with attaching the bracket/mount in the car.

Lastly, there are some Streetpilots like the c330 that are discontinued and selling at low prices now. They look similar on the outside, but they have inferior receivers (sometimes lose signals) and older maps. I would stay away from those.

  • Buy Cheap GPS

  • Another solid performing StreetPilot GPS Unit

Another solid performing StreetPilot GPS Unit, By Burgmicester (Pittsburgh) - This is my third Garmin StreetPilot purchased for my family. The c580 is basically just a slightly upgraded version of the c550 that we purchased last year. While there are some imperfections in the directions in and around complex roadways - where new meet old - I would definitely purchase another. They are so easy to use that you take it out of the box and run it. The touch screen directions are user friendly, the spoken street names are easy to understand and follow. The only negative that I have is that there is not a charging device that can be used in the house to pre-charge the batteries. The only way that you can charge this unit is in the car - that re-charger is provided. But it still is an inconvenience when moving it between cars. excellent GPS unit, By Davncong (Central California) - Unless you need to put your GPS in your pocket, BUY A STREETPILOT. Dollar for dollar they are by far superior to their Nuvi counterparts. You can get about $900 worth of GPS features for $150 or less. This model is very similar to the C550, but replaces FM traffic with MSN Direct. The only drawback to the StreetPilot series is its size. The overall size is good, they are just thicker (like tube TV versus LCD) but like I said, unless you need to be able to put the unit in your pocket, they are great. Its too bad Garmin has discontinued the line, but thats also why they're such a low price. very reliable and value for your money, By Anirban Roy "Roy" (Philadelphia, PA United States) - A lot of features. You don't get many of those in nuvi series at this price range. A bit bulky, but small enough for in-car use. This is not made for pedestrian use anyway. I had many short trips and two long trips (5-6 hours strech) and it never lost signal or took time to calculate/recalculate. Touch screen is very easy to use and has optimal sensitivity. A great buy. Not bad, but many of features don't work., By DallasFaninDC "DallasFan" (Virginia) - I bought this item several months ago. The MSN adapter that comes with the unit has already broken. This renders many of unit's selling points useless. I read on the internet where the plug breaks often. Poorly made and a replacement antenna is over $100. Not a quality product in my opinion Garmin StreetPilot c580 GPS Navigator, By E. Brooks "ebrooks714" (Reston, VA) - Very pleased with this navigator model. We take it with us whenever we go out of town. Recently visited relatives in small town near Little Rock, AR and also to Jacksonville, FL where we rented cars for both trips. This navigaor made it very easy for us to get around. Purchased it at a great price!
