i was considering buying a sky caddie gps, but i was wondering if you can use a regular gps to map a golf course on your own. i've never used a gps so i really don't know anything about them.
Why bother for $150.00 you can get the iGolf Neo.
The website in "source" below rates it above the Skycaddie although this is mainly because of price.
And you can start playing straight away without fussing about mapping. Besides how accurate will your 200 meters be when you are going over undulating ground?
With the iGolf you will have a exceptional GPS and over a hundred bucks change.
But the Skycaddie is also a great GPS.
And both will be able to analayze your game.
Keep that head down and follow through!!!

Im looking at this used GPS on ebay. The seller has a lot of great positive feedback and a good rating. The item is in good shape and fully functional according to the item description but it only comes with the suction mount, and car charger. It doesnt come with any software or the usb cables to connect the gsp to my computer. Is that alright?
Without more details, it's hard to tell.
Just remember two things:
1) Anything you purchase on eBay voids the manufacturers warranty, including Garmin GPS units.
2) If you want to connect the unit to your computer, you'll need a cable and software. If you're using a Garmin, the unit either has a serial connection or a USB connection. If the unit has a serial connection, you'll have to buy a $30 - $40 cable to connect the GPS! If the unit has a USB connection, you'll only need a cheap USB to mini-USB cord. No matter which way you go, you will need to purchase MapSource sseparately which typically runs about $20 - $30.
Honestly, I'd recommend buying one of the units on Amazon.com, with a warranty and everything you need to connect to your computer. I'd recommend looking at the eTrex Venture HC.

I live in the Dominican Republic and I need to purchase a GPS device, but I need to know if there is some specific regional requirements for me to be able to use it in my country.
Or can I use any GPS device?
I would really appreciate any guidance.
Any GPS device should work fine, regardless of your location just about anywhere on Earth. If you need specific maps on your GPS device for some purpose you would need to acquire maps of the region you will be going to. However if you don't need mapping (just coordinates, waypoints, etc) any GPS device will work fine.

I am doing a project for my IT class and I have been researching this topic on HOW GPS is used in the health field.
Could it be used for tracking patients? If you know some sources with information, I would appreciate this info. Thank you!
...and like always, I do pick the best answer :)
Sorry, I don't have any links, but I can answer the question.
GPS isn't used in the health field in say a hospital setting. However, it does have applications on the battlefield. Nowadays, medical units have kits which can relay information from battlefield patients like BP, EKG, body temp, etc. Since we're talking about a battlefield application, GPS comes in handy when trying to rescue the patient. Find the kit - find the patient.
I'm sure EMS has some applications, too, but am not aware of any.
Hope this helps.
In a phone such as the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 (AT&T), which has GPS, I understand that if you want to use it for turn-by-turn directions and so on, you have to add a service such as AT&T Navigator. But if you just wanted to know, for example, where you were, where the different directions are, do you need to buy and software/services, or does that work out of the box? Thanks!
On some phone (like the ones that run Windows CE, etc) you can download the application and data to the machine but you can't do it for all GPS phones.
