High Definition Televisions?
Goodbye Rogers, Hello HDOTA

I am looking for a cheaper HD-TV, but I want it to be a big screen(of course). I was thinking about a DLP tv because they seem to be nice enough and are only around 1,000 dollars for 50-60 inches. I heard that if you sit at the side of the tv you cant see the picture very well. What do you think of DLP tvs, or LCD'S?

Projectors and LCD sets have a problem with off-angle viewing, but the new LCD sets are quite good. The projectors have improved as well. DLP sets are lower in cost for large sizes, but are bigger and heavier. Personally, I prefer LCD to any projector.

Either 1080i or 1080p. You don't give enough information to narrow it down further than that.

Which HDTV Is Best For Me?

Howdy:

I'm in the market for a new HDTV. The most I'd probably want to spend is $2500US, but I'm not that concerned about the brand, footprint or the weight of the TV. It needs to be high definition and have a nice, big screen (more than 50 inches). The type of television (plasma, LCD, etc) doesn't matter much to me, as long as the picture looks great. It would be better if the TV didn't have a built-in tuner; I'm getting a receiver from my cable company.

I know it's a lot of stuff to consider, but I hope someone knows of a TV or two that will match most of my criteria.

- Chris

I have been researching on LCD and Plasma for nearly a year. For LCD, Sony's Bravia and Panasonic 60 series are taking the lead. For Plasma, Pioneer and Panasonic are leading greatly. I'm using a Panasonic 42PV500 now, it's awesome, it came with a menory slot for MPEG4 recording directly into the tv set. If u want something really big, don't consider LCD, buy Plasma. If u want 100% future-proof, Panasonic PV600 series (not the 60 series for LCD) supports 1080p, it's definitly the best choice for u now. Progressive is really way better than Interlace.

Samsung led engine dlp's how are they?

How are these televisions? Anyone own one and can give me some feedback?

I've heard nothing but good things and that they are some of the best televisions on the market... but seeking further opinions never hurt and that brings me here.

I want something in the 50 to 56 inch range and it's going to be used mainly for high definition Xbox 360 video games and an eventual blue ray dvd player.

Thanks!

To answer your specific question about the LED DLP engine, they look great. I first saw a display model at Fry's and it was next to a regular Halagen Lamp DLP model. They were identical except for the lamps. The LED looked a tad bit on the blue side when compared to the halagen but if you only had the LED model to look at you could not tell. Anyway, even this small amount of blue could easily have been adjusted out.

The other advantage of the LED lamp is the lifespan is something like 10 times longer then the Halagen lamp and it uses less power and runs much cooler.

I have an older model Samsung now but my next TV will be LED DLP.
