HDTV Answers
i know i already asked this, but i really have to clarify.
I have a 42 inch LCD Samsung HDTV, and im looking to buy a ps2 slimline for christmas for the great ps2 originals.
here are some answers i'd like to know, and dont mention newer HD games such as GT4. I'm NOT gonna get a ps3, and before you ask, i have a HDTV because i have an xbox 360.
1. How will the ps2 look overall on my hdtv? i can always set it back to 4:3 or any kind of adjustments.
2. Im looking to buy some older games, like Final Fantasy 10, and games that old, how will Final Fantasy 10 specifically look?
3. Taking in considering that i sit 2meters away from the screen?
4. I played Resident Evil 4 for Gamecube on my tv, how will the ps2 games look compared to it?
5. How about if i used my PS2 with my 10"x8" widescreen(sorta :p) computer monitor?
6. I heard i need some extra cables for better visuals, which ones will i need?
7. Is there a way to temporarily change my TV's native resolution, or just change its resolution to 480p or something like that?
and lastly, ive heard some bad things about ps2 slimline, should i get phat or slim (supposing i can find a phat somewhere) and what the prices will be? thank you
Details
I can sit up to 3 meters further, but i am afraid that i won't be able to see the details well enough
Haha how can I NOT want a ps3? Of course i want one but i can't afford it. Besides not many ps3 games i really want to play, just some PS2 Originals
when you say it will look ok, bad, etc. put if you mean my hdtv or computer monitor
Oh right

HDTV or Computer Monitor
1. it won't look that bad because i always play my ps2 on my 42 inch hdtv and it still has good graphics just not the best
2 and 3. they will look good and i usually play old games like need for speed hot pursuit 2 and tony hawk pro skater 2 and they look good from close distance
4. It will look a little better than the gamecube because ps2 has better graphics
5. I've never tried a computer monitor but im guessing it will be the same
6. You can probably get a component cable which is better resolution than an a/v cable
7. It will change automatically because it won't but hd to play games that don't support that.
i have a ps2 fat version and it is better protected and has fans inside to the dust won't get in and it will cool down the system and the slot to put in disks is a lot safer from dust than the ps2 slim because the slimline leaves the disk reading lenses unprotected.
A new slimline will cost around $120 and the fat version you will find only at gamestop or online where they sell used systems for cheaper prices

All I want is the best possible gaming performance from my xbox 360 on my samsung LCD television. Do I need one of those xbox 360 high definition cables. Right now, there are the 3 cables that connect to the TV. They are colours yellow, white, and red, but i noticed the cord also has 3 others. they are red green and blue. Are these high def cables ?? Im new to all this. Please help. I will go buy something if i need to to get the best 360 quality.
You are using the standard definition (TV) part of your cable. The yellow cable is displaying a standard definition composite video signal and the red and white are stereo right and left sound channels.
The other 3 leads provide a component signal (red, green and blue) and this is for HDTV High Definition video signals. You still have to use the red and white cables that you already have plugged in for sound when using HDTV (high definition) or TV (standard defintion) video from your cable.
If you want to simplify things, you could just get an HDMI cable from your Xbox 360 to your Samsung HDTV - but seeing as you already have high definition cables you may as well use those as the quality difference is not noticable (component supplies a high definition signal in analogue and HDMI provides it in digital format - both of which your HDTV will understand).

Better 32 inch LCD: Samsung ln32b640 vs Sony Bravia?? - High Def ...
Forget the contrast ratio, and what they look like in the store. Unless you were able to mess with the settings who knows what they could have been set at. I would choose the Samsung over the Sony, and although I have no experience with them Toshibas are seeming to outscore both of those sets according to many here on the forum. I would look into them. This forum (including myself) is also very partial to Panasonic plasmas. And a 42" would fit your price range and fit your viewing distance even better. Plasma will provide a much better gaming experience and a much better sports viewing experience. As long as the room isn't overly bright plasma will most likely be the best choice.
