I was wondering if there is any way I can send an output signal from my HDTV to my PC, record it, and play it back on my TV. Alternatively I could buy a Hard Drive Recorder, but I figure if I already have a computer with a hard drive I could just use that. I know I can record HDTV on the PC using a TV tuner card, but it seems unnecessary seeing as the HDTV is already generating the signal and doing all the dirty work that the card would do. I just don't know how to get the signal from the HDTV to the PC so I can record it with a recording program. I figure you should be able to have the HDTV as an input to the PC just like you can input and record off of a video camera.
If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful.
Thanks
There are TVs that have a TV output, but even then it is only standard def. So, if you want to record HD TV on your PC, you do need a TV tuner.

Every electrical dealer is selling 'High Definition' televisions here in Australia and yet we still don't have 'high definition' channels. I'm wondering if station like ABC HDTV and TDT HD are actually high definition and if so why are the other stations so slow to get on board.
For a start dont buy a HD tv just yet as they are mostly compatable for hd and regular tv so they dont really work that well the reason that there is not very much hd channels out there is because there is a low demand for high defintion so it is expensive to run a channel for it there is a schedual for mos countries to go completely high def but because there is differant broadcasting styles like pal and ntsc it may take some time for it all to go hd i belive that the uk is meant to go completly hd around 2016 as for austrailia it will likly be round that time that all stations pick up hd channels
What are the pros and cons of HDTV . Are the old TVs going to be obsolete ?
You can find really good deals on walmart.com.
Hdtv's are smaller, have better pictures, and yes eventually the old tv's will be obsolete. Make sure you get one with a high contrast ratio, and a resolution of no less than 720p, and a ntsc/atsc tuner.
