High Definition Sports Television

My wife and I are not technophiles. Neither of us is interested in the zit-enhancing image quality of high definition television. However, we are concerned about whether we can continue to watch or favorite programs and sports on our old Sony TV without having to get a new TV or some type of attachment. We receive our programming now via a Cable operator. We have a TiVo recorder/player attached to the TV. Do we have to do anything special or buy anything special if all we want to do is watch and occasionally record the same programs we've enjoyed for years?

If you keep ordering cable/satellite, then you don't have to worry. It's only TV's that receive signals from airwave signals rabbit ears & rooftop antennaes that need to either buy a new TV or the converter box. The switchover from analog to digital is supposed to occur in February 2009. You can go to dtv.gov & get all this info & also to get a $40.00 off coupon for the converter box (they'll range between $50.00 - $75.00 for the box) to convert airwave signals to digital.

At a glance,this new stadium shows that team owner Jerry Jones is “sparing no expense.” The arch foundations will have 25-foot-high abutments and be anchored up to 70 feet underground.The Empire State Building could fit underneath them with plenty of room to spare.there will be an amazing 86-foot-high glass exterior where the clear glass paneling will be pelted with ceramic dots that will create a blue and gray translucence as the sun moves through the sky. The Stadium will sport the largest high definition LED displays in the world which will span from in between the 20 yard lines – that’s 60 yards, folks. There will also be over 3,000 smaller HD LED screens all around the stadium, including personal televisions in every locker for the athletes. There will also be independent power outlets, broadband data ports, and ceiling recessed projectors for team meetings during half time.

There will also be a retractable roof which will open and shut within 12 minutes, nearly 1,000 concession stands, and end zone party sections that will seat up to 10,000 for concerts and other special events. Cost to build? $1.1 BILLION DOLLARS making it the most expensive stadium in history. It’ll open in time for the 2009 NFL season and will seat over 80,000.

Yeah it looks real nice but it is an absolute waste of money. The worse thing about the whole situation is that Jerry doesn't really have to pay for any of it. The corporate sponsor that they are going to get for it will reportedly have to spend $200 million for the naming rights, and take payers have to pay a huge chunk of the money to keep the team from moving away.... What a waste of money...

Entertainment: Consists of a wide variety of media presentations: movies, music, television shows, sporting events, etc. A pacifier for adults.

Executive Action: Probably a criminal activity.

Executive Compensation: The amount of money it would take to feed most impoverished nations.

Executive Decision: Consensus opinion expressed by the person with the highest position in an organization.

Free Enterprise: A system whereby commercial enterprises attempt, by means fair and foul, to corner the money supply.

Free Press: Media that is unhampered by obligations to objectivity and responsible journalism. Trades on the myth that ‘free’ implies unbiased.

Free Trade: An import/export arrangement between two or more countries. Defines the starting point for cheating by all parties to the agreement.

Free Vote: A multi-billion dollar poll used to determine if the populace has been subjected to sufficient propaganda.

Freedom Fighter: A terrorist who sees things our way.

Legal Precedent: The first judge got it wrong and it has been done that way ever since.

No Taxation without Representation: Expression made popular during the American War of Independence. The public has since been given a token number of representatives who don’t listen in exchange for an exorbitant amount of taxes.

Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity: The accused is guilty but is set free because the individual appeared before an insane judge and/or jury.

Not-for-profit Organization: The people running the operation are being honest: they are in it only to fill their own pockets without attempting to delude stakeholders into believing otherwise.

Peace Keeping Force: Keeping two sides in line by the implied use of a force greater than the one that either side had to contend with previously.

Physician: A mechanic that works on humans. They know so much about maintaining health that they are immortal. Okay, so the bad ones only live twice as long as the rest of us do.

Reality Show: A television show produced by people who clearly do not originate in this galaxy.

Statutory law: We didn’t like the way that the common law was unfolding so we “plugged it”.

Weapons of Mass Destruction: Chemical, nuclear and biological weapons in the possession of our enemies. Ours are defensive in nature.

United Nations: Countries that are united in their inability to come up with useful solutions to the world’s problems.

Utopia: A perfect world … we aren’t there yet. Hang a left at Saturn and keep straight for three trillion light years.
