Lg High Definition Television

I have an LG 47 1080p high definition television
The contrast ratio is 8000 to 1 on this television
is this a good ratio for this size television or am I just wasting my money?

Actually considering that size of your LG... an 8,000:1 contrast ratio isn't that fancy. Most LGs above 42" have at LEAST 10,000:1 and many have up to 50,000:1

But I'll let you in on a little secret that not many people know. There is no industry "standard" for measuring contrast ratio, so if youre comparing the contrast ratio of an LG to that of a Samsung, you should NOT determine which one you want by contrast ratio numbers. You could have a Samsung with 15,000:1 and it could look better than a Panasonic with 500,000:1.

I have a LG HD T.V and maybe it's just me but i find when I watch T.V the picture quality isn't as good as it should be, now when I watch DVDs or Blu-Rays the picture quality is great, but T.V not so much. Is there anything I need to do to make the picture quality of my television shows more "High-Definition?

Let me guess, you are on cable or satellite. Cable and satellite are notorious for compressing video to make room for more channels. Compression removes resolution.

Nothing is going to look as good as an HD DVD on a Blu-ray player, that is totally uncompressed. Next would be over the air broadcast HD and last would be cable or satellite.
