Can I connent my 5.1 surround sound speakers through my laptop's HDMI port?

I have a laptop with just one headphone socket, so I can't play 5.1 surround sounds speakers because I gather you need 3 jacks for that.
I do have a HDMI port on my laptop though, so is it possible to buy an adaptor or something that will let me connect 5.1 surround speakers that require 3 audio jacks into the HDMI port?
Thanks

Yes you can
your amp would be able to encode 5.1
then laptop to amp will be 5.1, and that way you get 5.1 through your speakers.
Try play with dts media, the best.

You have to setup your pc in a way that hdmi digital out not just boring stereo.

Are all blu ray players set up to have 5.1 surround sound speakers attached?

I have a blu ray dvd player and would like to buy 5.1 surround sound speakers to go with it. Will it be equipped with decoder to support 5.1 surround sound speakers or not.

Not directly. You will need the speakers and some type of surround amplifier/receiver ... not just the speakers. That said, all Blu-ray players have built in 5.1 dolby digital decoders (and many have advanced decoders for 7.1 formats increasingly used on Blu-ray (but not DVD) disks).

what is the best way to connect 5.1 surround speakers to a laptop without a surround sound port?

on my laptop i have a stereo headphone port, a VGA-out port, USB, an S-video port and Expresscard. i want to get 5.1 surround sound for games and movies. what is the best way?
i cant spend too much money (im spending £40 on speakers already and im cheap)
if i do have to buy an external sound card, where from and how much is it?

The only way is to buy an external audio card. You will need an audio card with 5.1 exits. You should buy a 2.1 set, it also sounds better than 5.1 . (5.1 looses quality of sound to create the surround effect)

I'm looking for 5.1 Surround sound speakers that I can plug both my computer and my Xbox 360 into?

I'm looking for 5.1 Surround sound speakers that I can plug both my computer and my Xbox 360 into at the same time. Suggestions?

Speakers aren't 'surround'. You need an actual surround receiver. If you have that then simply plug into the inputs and select its source (aux) and whatever you plug in will be 'surround' to the best of its capabilities. Enjoy!

Can anyone recommend good 7.1 surround sound speakers?

I am looking for a surround sound speaker system that can have multiple inputs (stereo and 7.1) and a good set of speekers with subwoofer it must be able to fill all speakers using just a stereo input.
Thanks!!
Also good 5.1's

Here is my recommendation. This is a nice setup. But honestly go out and listen to speakers with your own media. And spend your money wisely, don't buy Bose.
