Yes, you can, however, they don't sound like very good speakers - the bass response is fairly poor - even for speakers that only cost $250.

I misunderstood the wire gauge system and bought 18 gauge speaker wires instead of 16 gauge. Will there be a noticeable sound difference for a 40 feet long setup? Should I replace it with 16 gauge wires instead? Thank you.

There is a roll-off of high frequencies over a long run of speaker wire. People with high-end/sensitive music systems can hear the difference between different gauges with a 15 ft run.

A speaker web site once suggested:

1-10 ft: 16 ga
11-20 ft: 14 ga
20+ ft : 12 ga

For the rear speakers ... probably you wont notice anything but 18 ga is below the suggested thickness for even short runs, let alone 40 ft.

If it was me - I'd buy a spool of oxygen free 12 ga from a speaker building site like www.partsexpress.com and use it everywhere.

Which set of speakers are better: the JBL CS6100 or the Harman Kardon HKTS 18? Which would be a better choice for a medium sized living room?... Which is a more reliable brand? please elaborate

I like the Harmon Kardon better, but the Klipsch or Boston Acoustics brand seem to have a better response overall....

For example, when someone beats a drum or a vehicle's engine is one, the speakers make a buzzing sound. I've tested that it is a problem with the TV, not the device hooked up to it or the cord used to connect it to the TV. The TV is a KDL-32XBR9. I usually keep my volume low. Like around 18. I have the sound settings on default, also.
I discovered that my Samsung DLP TV does this also. I believe it may have to do with the quality of the speakers. They're just 10W speakers, and I'm guessing that they simply aren't able to handle the low frequency noises.
