Get extremely low volume from 2 external surround sound speakers when plugged into anything?

Hey guys, I have been having a problem with 2 sharp surround sound speaker system speakers. The problem is that when I plug them into anything (stereo, Home Theater they came with, cable box, vcr, dvd player and anything else, the speakers play at a VERY low volume (the type you have to put yourear next to to hear) The cound quality even at these volume levels is great though. I took off the front grille and I see no loose wires and or cables and everything is where it is supposed to be. The cone moves up and down easily, is there something I missed while in there? What can I do to fix these speakers? can you tell me what is wrong with them, whoever helps the most gets the 10 points best answer!

Thanks again in advance

There are simple ways to check out if a speaker is playing correctly in a surround sound situation. The first is substitute the rear speakers with the ones in the front. If they work fine in the front, then the problem would be in tweaking them according to some sort of spec. (like THX or any other available optimization disk - if you dont have one and dont want to buy one - rent the Indiana Jones remasterd THX disks I think they all come with the optimization tests on them) They work inconjuction with your receiver and allow you to adjust the levels so that you can get optimum sound and picture. I hope this helps.

Can i hardwire wireless surround sound speakers ?

I am looking at buying a surround sound system, and it seems thye all come with wireless speakers.

Now i dont want my home network and speakers conflicting for the 2.4 band so i would rather just run the speaker wires for the rear under the floor in the basement and back up.

They do not all come with wireless speakers. In fact that is not the standard at all. Look harder and don't get wireless as it will introduce more RF energy into your home.

Where should I place my Surround Sound Speakers for best sound quality?

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma (TH-42PX60U) and I just bought a Samsung Surround Sound System (HT-TX72), I was curious to know where should I place (in feet) the 2 front speakers as well as the 2 back speakers to make sure that I am getting the best sound. I have my couch set up about 8 feet away from the TV.

This guide shows in great depth the ideal placement of each speaker; http://www.soundstage.com/surrounded/sur rounded200307.htm

Why do my surround sound speakers have a continous clicking sound?

Every three seconds my speakers have a quick click or static click sound. I have a Sony surround sound system with 2 front, 2 surround, 1 center and 1 sub. What can I do to stop this clicking sound. It is driving me crazy. This system is brand new.
Thanks.

Have you checked the speaker wires to make sure that they are in their connections and that you didn't accidentally clamp some of them down on the wire insulation? Other than that, there's probably something wrong with the system itself or the power in your dwelling. You may try plugging it in elsewhere in your house/apt. to see if you have the same problem.

Can the front and back speakers of my surround sound system be separated by different distances?

Because my lounge is L shaped, the front speakers are going to be about 3 metres apart, but the back two speakers are going to be about 5 metres apart.

Is this ok?

Our sofa will be placed parallel to the front speakers (i.e. only cover the 3 metres of the back wall). There will be a dining table in the other 2 metre gap.

thanks for any help!

EXCELLENT QUESTION!

Answer: No worries there. Because a surround-field benefits from some diffusion, the wider distance will not have a negative impact on your experience.

Front speaker placement is far more critical - the rule-of-thumb there is that the speakers should never be placed farther apart from one another as you shall be from the axis that they're on. In other words, if your head is the top point of a triangle, the base of that triangle (with a speaker on each end) should never be wider than the distance from that base-line to your head. An equilateral triangle representing the widest placement that is still okay.

With the rears, just make sure that the tweeters (or basically the entire surround speaker) should be pointing toward the direction where your head will be on the couch, generally speaking.

When surround speakers are installed directly to the left and right of the seating position, this is sometimes referred to as "the headphone effect" - and it will work just fine for the surround channels to do their thing effectively.

So if your speakers end up behind the listening position, all the better, just don't forget to "toe them in" a little so they point toward the couch.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Home theater systems are also referred to as home cinemas that attempt to mimic the theater experience with quality audio and video in the home. In a home theater system, the visual part often involves a large-screen and/or high definition television or even a projection system. High quality audio imitation in home theater systems is frequently accomplished with a high fidelity surround sound system.

A starter home theater system may comprise only a television and a Blu-Ray or DVD player along with a set of surround sound speakers. But you can add to your home theater system in any number of ways including multimedia options and a large diversity of technical features.

A great home theater system will offer a real theater experience. It may include a number of high quality components and it usually includes a outsized screen TV or a large projector screen. Most projectors do have the capabilities of HDTV.
