2 Speaker Surround Sound?

I called radioshack and they tell me that they only have 2.1 surround sound that is pc compatible in the store. I'm wondering is 2.1 surround sound as good as 5.1 surround sound.

I didn't know if this is anything like i have seen on tv where they offer you a 2 speaker system that acts like a 5.1 surround sound.

So do the subwoofer + 2 surround sound speakers sound as good as the subwoofer + 5 surround sound speakers.

Also a friend of mine told me that he once bought a 5 speaker surround sound that is compatible with pc, which came with an adapter that allows him to hook the 5 speakers upto his computer without the use of a sound card.

I was wondering if i wanna buy a 5 speaker system instead of the 2 speaker system, where can i find the adapter so that i don't have to buy a sound card.

My friend has a Coby surround sound which he can hook up to his computer and his tv at the sametime. Also he can switch between i guess the tv and computer.

a 2.1 "surround sound setup" isnt really "surround" its just 2 speakers with a subwoofer for bass.. surround is at least 4 for a decent one.. 2 front 2 back.. the optimal surround is 2 left/right and one center for the front and the 2 surround left/right.. so i suggest you save up for a 5.1 speaker system..

if its the 2 speakers set up.. it might be virtual surround where attempt to bounce the sound waves to the back..

as for the adaptor to hook up on both tv and comp.. i have no idea..

how do i set up surround sound with 2 sets of speakers?

i have a set of speakers and a sub woofer on my desk..the other day someone gave me another set of speakers for my pc...how do i configure them n make em work like surround sound speakers.

Your PC does not have enough power to directly drive speakers more than a few watts in power.
4 big speakers is almost impossible. You need to get an AV receiver.

Are surround sound speakers compatible with 2-channel receivers?

I have some sony surround sound speakers from an OLD setup and I wanted to use them with a 2-channel basic receiver. When I plug them in, the bose pre-amped subwoofer works but the speakers don't. What should I do?

Stop buying Bose stuff. It tends to lack compatibility.

Have you tried plugging the old Bose into a surround system to see if that works? This should work just fine. You could always chop the plugs off of two speaker leads and wire directly to your stereo receiver, but you would loose the sub.

How well do 2.1 speakers simulate surround sound?

I found a great deal on a 2.1 home theater system, but was wondering if I should hold out for the 5.1 so I can have surround sound.

Stereo sound can be VERY convincing, but only in a very controlled environment.

If you have the space, and really won't mind having speakers to either side of you, the 5.1 is worth it. Remember, though, what I am about to say, and take it to heart.

The surround speakers to to either side of you, not behind you. Read that again and repeat it, and correct anyone you meet that thinks otherwise. This is one of the most common mistakes in surround sound, and is responsible for many people thinking it sounds weird and unnatural. To either side of you, NOT behind you.

You don't need a speaker behind you, your brain will handle that perfectly well without a speaker.

A good 5.1 system, set up properly, is a wonder to behold in action, an absolute wonder. I have a lot of experience in this, and my home theater reflects this to a vast degree. NOBODY, no matter how jaded, leaves here unaltered after watching a film.

A cheap system in a box isn't the same thing, and I do not recommend one. This IS the most common mistake in surround sound. Bose has made millions telling people that tiny speakers make big sound, and millions of people have consequently told their friends after purchasing a system that it wasn't worth it, and surround is just hype. A subwoofer is supposed to be just that, a subwoofer. But these all in one systems use the sub as a midbass driver as well, and that absolutely doesn't work well at all. Even Bose does this. Sure, there will be people here who are going to disagree, but facts are facts, and professionals know the facts. In speakers, there has never been, and never will be, a replacement for displacement. Well known laws of physics prevent those little drivers from making big sound, and these laws are unavoidable.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

If this deal you speak of doesn't include a real receiver as well as speakers with at least 4 inch drivers, don't bother with it unless you have a very, very tiny room.

The best deals right now in audio are the entry level Pioneer receivers. These things sound great for the money, and have power to spare. You may think you don't need much power, but 5 speakers are hard to drive. Some of the best speakers for the money are the entry level JBLs. They are pretty darned neutral sounding for their price, and I have yet to find a soul who wasn't impressed with them.

I strongly suggest you do more research. Go pick up a home theater magazine from the book store to familiarize yourself with what's on the market, check out enthusiast forums on the internet, and ask around.

What you think you know, may well turn out not to be true anymore.

  • Samsung T200HD 20-inch Touch of Color LCD HDTV Widescreen Monitor ...

Stunningly designed, the SAMSUNG T200HD is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It features a built-in digital HDTV tuner capable of 1080p high definition, an amazing 20,000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response rate that deliver sharp contrast and virtually no blurring when watching movies or playing video games. You’ll be captivated by the beauty of the SAMSUNG T200HD. Amazon.com Product Description

The box says it’s the correct model name and number. All of the specs are correct except that the box says the resolution is 1680 x 1050 and that is in fact what it was when I plugged it in and checked. In reading more of the product reviews I see complaints about this going back at least as far as November 2008 and as recently as a week ago. What the heck? I’m on the phone now with an Amazon customer service rep who is clearly overseas and I can barely hear him because the connection is so poor. He said that they’ll take the product page down right away so no one else has the same problem. I find that hard to believe since this problem has apparently been happening for at least 4 months. He said they’ll ship me another one right away but that’s crazy; I don’t want to just receive another one of the same. Note: For those of you who commented on other reviews that we as buyers should have known because no monitors under 24″ have a 1920 x 1200 resolution, I can only reply that I’m typing this review on my 17″ MacBook Pro which has a resolution of — you guessed it — 1920 x 1200.
