I'm looking for a quality surround sound as I'll be using it all the time for gaming
The absolute best surround system that Logitech makes is the Z-5500. It's a little pricier but you can get a good used set on eBay for cheaper.

Ive just bought a "Logitech Z-5500 THX-Certified 505-Watt 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System" At the moment im using a direct stereo cable from my laptop to the system but this way i cant use the THX, Dolby Digital and DTS features.
My Laptop AR-21 has a optical out port so Im guessing if I get a fiber optic audio cable and use a toslink optical cable adapter to connect to my laptop's optical out (because there isnt normal optical out on VAIOS). Would this work? OR is there any other way?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
If your laptop has an Optical Out, why in hell are you not using it? Purchase that Toslink adapter and that cable and get some digital audio to those beautiful speakers! I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Price: $99.99
Multiple inputs make it easy to connect your PC, game console, iPod, DVD player and more

I trade a desktop HP Pavilion Elite M9510F. Extras include Logitech surround sound speakers and an Acer 21.5" HD LCD monitor.
This would be for a Sony Vaio FW170J/H laptop.
If you briefly look at the specs and mention who comes out on top, or if its even, or if I shouldn't do it, I'll give you the full 10 points (serious response).
Thanks!
The desktop has better specs...
But, yours could be different..
From what I looked at the Pavilion is better.
But don't trade..
SERIOUSLY!!
I have Paradigm Atoms which take a maximum input power of 50 watts but a suitable amp power range of 15-80 watts. I also have a Paradigm CC-190 center channel with a maximum power range of 15-120 watts with a maximum input power of 80 watts. Should I replace my Yamaha receiver (HTR-5630) which provides 70 watts per channel? It is a cheap receiver costing about $150 (bought it for $250 4 years ago) in today's market. What receiver can I get from $500-$750 that has very clean power, meets my specs above and is user friendly. My Yamaha now is a bit confusing with 21 sound/surround modes......wow, I just want to know whether I am in Stereo or 5/6 Surround Channel mode without the hassle. But clean sounding power is the priority.
Every receiver I know of in that price range will be able to power your speakers without problems. It is very rare for a speaker to get damaged by too much clean power. Speakers are more frequently damaged by underpowered amps that are pushed beyond their limits. To prevent damage to your speakers, let your ears tell you what to do. If the sound is harsh or distorted-sounding, turn it down. If it sounds clear, the volume is fine.
If you're looking for a new receiver, I'd suggest an Onkyo TX-SR575 or TX-SR605. They're both 7.1 receivers with ample power (80Wpc and 90Wpc) and are more user-friendly than your current receiver. The latter offers HDMI up-conversion. If that's not a benefit to you, the less expensive of the two may be a good option.

My girlfriend and I will be moving into a new apartment soon and the living room shape is quite odd due to the floor to ceiling bay windows. There is only one location for the TV in the corner where it shows the fireplace on the floor plan. (There is no fireplace in ours that we will be moving into). Normally I would wall mount the speakers but seeing as the room is oddly shaped and the room is entirely all windows as well, I think it would be best to buy some speaker stands instead? I'm no expert by anymeans so I'm unsure if this would be the best option. Also, if getting stands would be the best option; if anyone knows of a more cheap but qaulity stand that would hold my front, and surround...
