What will I need to add 4 speakers to my stereo system? It is not a new system - but one of those all-in-one jobs with stereo CD/cassette player. Is has a good sound, so I would like to connect 4 more speakers for outside on the front and rear decks. What will I need to do this - if, in fact, I can do this?
splitters are ancient technology. in the 21st century we use what we like to call wireless speakers. radio shack sells them. you just plug them into any wall outlet indoors or out. you can also remove the power supply from the speakers to hang them or use as bookshelf speakers. don't you just love the technology we have now. i've got a couple of pairs myself. they can handle temps as low as 32 degrees or as high as 95 degrees, as well as humidity.
I created stereo speakers out of 4 computer hard drives. They are arranged in a stereo config and taped to maximize their sound quality.
I have good car stereo speaker I would like to use in our basement bar. The Car stereo speakers are 4 ohms and 240 Watts. Home stereo is either 8 or 16 ohms (not sure).
it depends on if your amp is stable at 4 ohms, if it is the amp will make more power... if it isn't it will make more heat and will go into protection or fry the transistors
check the owner's manual of the amp to see if it is 4 ohm stable
you could also wire two 4-ohm speakers in series to get an 8 ohm mono load

I want to be able to play music on my stereo speakers that I have outside (wired or wireless is fine) but they are big stereo speakers and I don't know how I would connect them or if the computer has enough power to sound decent on them. Help?
If you pull too much power through your sound card to your speakers, you risk burning out the circuitry in the card. Also if you cannot drive the speakers, you risk hurting them too. It is best to use your computer as a music server to a receiver that powers the speakers. The receiver usually has enough power through it's internal amp to power the speakers. You could also push an amp with your computer, but you'd get deeper sound through a receiver IMO.
Route the audio from your sound card into your aux in connection on your receiver.
Have fun with it.

I hooked up 2 10" subwoofers (250 rms each) and 2 4"x10" rear speakers (150 rms each) to a 4 channel amp (75 rms per channel). It was working fine for about a week, then the rear right speaker smoked, stank, then the amp went into shut down mode. The 2 subs and the rear left all work until the amp shuts down. I have a 1.5 farad capacitor leading into the amp, and my ground is secured tightly to the frame of the car with about 8 inches of 4 g wire between the amp and the bolt holding it down. I have checked and dble checked to make sure there is no pinching of any wires, and I can't figure out what is going on. Please help if you can. Everything is rated at 4 ohms, nothing is in bridged or parallel mode. It is straight wired: 4 channels, 4 speakers.
No matter what the specs say...there is no way a 4X10 speaker will handle 75 watts rms....more like 30. That being said your right rear 4X10 is history...when the smoke gets out it's gone! If your running any bass to them at all, it will continue to happen when you replace it/them. You need to cut out the bass to them....anything below 120hz approx. Your amp should have some sort of crossover built in. It all depends on brand on how to hook up. That will help some. Also watch the gains on these channels. Don't run them all the way up...cut back some and the 4X10's will live a long natural life.
Your amp should be O.K. if it's of quality. Just replace the 4X10 and you should be ready to go again after your readjustment of the amp. If you're not sure, got to a quality shop. They shouldn't charge much to re-wire the set up for a longer life and help with the adjustment of your amp.
i tried connecting the speakers directly to the tv buy stripping the wires and connecting to the back of the tv, but no sound. I heard my speakers might be too many watts for my tv... do i need an amp and some kind of battery to make it work??
Yes, you do.
