http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/ rb-51.aspx

i want a somewhat audiophile setup stictly for listening to music do you think i would get an improvement in sound if i ran the too bookshelfs of a different amp i was planning on buying this amp for them Onkyo M-282

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/f eatures/531299905

instead of running them off of the reciever Do you think this would improve the quality of my sound for music?
please keep in mind that im only 17 and i cant afford the best gear yet i know some of you have better stuff than me and have been into stereo equipment longer than ive been alive so i respect you and ask for you honest opinion.
im not planning on pushing this amp to hard proboly no more than 60% ever
im not planning on pushing this amp to hard proboly no more than 60% ever
my current amp only has 75W rms and this one is 100W rms

You currently own a receiver & you are looking at a power amplifier. Do you realize that to use a power amplifier you need a preamplifier?

Since your goal is not to get the maximum volume from your speakers, but the maximum sound quality, you are looking at the wrong specs.

Don't worry about wattage, it's not as important as you think it is. There isn't enough difference between most home stereo's wattage output to make much of a difference.

Going from 75 Watts RMS per channel to 100 Watts RMS per channel will give you a 1.5 dB increase in sound. 1.5 db is only 15% louder. Going from 75 Watts RMS per channel to 300 watts RMS per channel will give you a 6 dB increase. 1 dB is about the minimum change that we can perceive. 10 dB is the feeling of being twice as loud.

What you need to be looking at is the THD rating. The THD rating won't tell you how good or clear an amplifier (or receiver) sounds, but it's the best specification available we have to look at (that manufactures put out) to indicate how good an amplifier will sound. There are others you can look at that can also possibly be of some help such as it's frequency response output. An amplifier that says it puts out 5 Hz - 100 KHz should sound better than one that says it puts out 20 Hz - 20 KHz.

Now since you are on a tight budget & you already have a fairly good receiver (75 Watts 0.08% THD) I think you should first concentrate on upgrading your speakers instead of your receiver.

The best way to choose speakers is to listen to them & choose the ones that you think sound best.

With speakers the important manufacturer specifications to look at are frequency response & sensitivity.

The frequency responce tells you how low & how high the speakers go, it's expressed in hertz (Hz). 20 Hz - 20 KHz is the range of human hearing.

Sensitivity tells you how loud the speaker is. It's expressed as decibels (dB). A 2.83 volt signal (equivalent to one watt output on a stereo amp) is fed to the speaker and a decibel reading is taken at a distance of one meter from the speaker. The higher the dB number the louder the speaker is.

Things like the crossover frequencies & the cabinet effect how a speaker sounds. That's why actually listening to how speakers sound is the best way to judge speakers.

When you look at a manufacturer's 1m/1W SPL chart the line that is more flat & level is better than a line that has a lot of high peaks & low dips. The numbers at the bottom of the chart indicate the frequency, starting with the lowest tones on the left going to the highest tones on the right. The numbers on the side of the chart indicate the decibels, starting with the quietest dB at the bottom & the loudest dB at the top.

You can almost always build better speaker cabinets than what you can buy. So when you are on a budget building your own cabinets for your speakers & subwoofers is your best option.

"With average sensitivity of 95dB/2.83v/1 meter this is one powerful speaker, and with response of plus/minus 2.5dB from 38Hz to 16kHz it's also very accurate. In room the bass response extends to below 20Hz. And the best feature? How about a build cost as low as $300- for a pair!"

Oh sure, your Onkyo amp will have no problems with the RB-51, and if you love the sound, then it sounds like you're set. However, you may find that if you upgrade your mains, you will want to match them with a better center channel, since most of the home theater sound will be coming from the center channel. A matching center channel will give you the best results.

Another couple speakers that you may find to even outperform the RB-51 for less money are the Hsu Research HB-1 and the BIC Acoustech HT-64. These both have a similar horn configuration, but I believe the clarity is slightly better on both accounts. And if a floorstanding speaker is not out of the question, the Acoustech HT-75 is a super highly efficient speaker system for about the same price as the little RB-51 (and you won't need stands or have to mount them).

i like a speaker that has kind of a bright sound with tight bass and excellent midraange which of these two would be the best.

The KEF's are more versatile and have a more natural sounding midrange. The Klipsh definitely fit the brightness requirement however. The key is that you need to listen to both side by side, if possible, with music you are familiar with. If you are listening to mainly rock you may not be satisfied with the bass performance of either speaker. Consider getting a small sub woofer with a variable crossover. Then run speaker wires (not RCA cables) to the sub and then speaker wires to the bookshelf speakers. With this set up you should be able to get quality sound with either of the speakers you choose.

Can i use my reciever as a sound processor for another amp?

I Have a Onkyo TX-SR504
http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=TX-S R504&class=Receiver&p=i

And i have a pair of klipsch RB-51 bookshelf speakers on the way.
http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/ rb-51.aspx

And i have a Powerd sub form an infinity TSS

So i am planing on buying a amplifier to use for my Klipsch speakers to have a nice semi audiophile set up strictly to listen to music so i want to buy another amplifier. This is the one i want to buy Onkyo M-282

http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/f eatures/531299905

Butt.... I have a few questions First or all can i use my reciver as a sound processor so i can use processing modes such as Pro Logic 2 music and neo 6 music and send the signal to the onkyo Onkyo M-282 so i have more tonal control over the amplifier since it has no contols. but i would only be using signal form the first onkyo none of its power.
if this is possible how can i do this

Second how can i use my powered sub with the Onkyo M-282 if how tell
please keep in mind that im only 17 and i cant afford the best gear yet i know some of you have better stuff than me and have been into stereo equipment longer than ive been alive so i respect you and ask for you honest opinion.

It can be done but I don't see any advantage in doing so.

The receiver you own & the amplifier you are looking at have almost no difference in wattage output (75 watts verses 100 watts) & they both have a THD rating of 0.08% THD.

If you do hear any difference it will probably sound worse in the receiver + amplifier set up than it will in the receiver by it's self set up.

The more components you add between the original source (CD player, DVD player, microphone) & the speakers, the more likely you are to add unwanted noise.

Often the best set up is a surround sound preamplifier & a separate power amplifier, but that is usually the more expensive option. That may seem like a contradiction since a surround sound receiver does the same thing in one component. But because it isolates the amplifier from processors that can introduce noise, it can be to better separate the amplifier with a separate component.

whats the best pair of bookshelf or tower speakers for under $400?

This Is Strictly for music!! were building just a strict stereo setup in my living room. I have Klipsch RB-51's in my bedroom and i think they sound great is there anything better than this in the price range of $400

Especially since you like your Klipsch bookshelves, then my
easy choice for you is the BIC Acoustech HT-75 floorstand-
ing loudspeakers. These are horn-loaded like your Klipsch
minimonitors, but they have been rated to outperform even
the more expensive Klipsch towers. Best of all, I've seen a
few places selling them for around $280 a pair + shipping.

Another good one is the Athena AS-F2.2 floor speakers...
These are quite efficient for a dome tweeter based speaker
system, and they're in your price range w/quite good sound.

Thank you for this question. My specialty (and my love) has
been loudspeakers, and has been for a quarter of a century.

  • A Review Of The Best Omnidirectional Outdoor Speakers »» Reactual ...

A recent Reactual post profiled four of the top directional outdoor speakers , which are an excellent choice for a defined area like a small deck or patio. But if you have a large yard or an open outdoor space like a pool, managing volume levels and sound coverage from a pair of directional speakers is tough. Enter the “omnidirectional” speaker, which broadcasts uniform sound evenly around the source. Here are four of the best choices available to provide full sound coverage in these types of outdoor settings.

The Bose Free Space 51 outdoor speakers provide even 360-degree sound, and their rugged design makes them perfect for permanent outdoor installation. Each speaker can be mounted on a deck or directly on the ground, and they are rated to withstand sun, snow, ice, and even saltwater spray. The Free Space 51 uses a 4.5” downward-directed driver, and features a domed central port to balance high and low tones. These speakers are fairly sizeable at over a foot tall, but their green color makes them easy to camouflage in grass or plants.
