Repair Acoustic Research Phantom Speakers?
VIntage Stereo

Hi
My dad has Acoustic Research Phantom speakers and one of the midranges has broken.
Where can we send it to get it repaired?
(Other than the USA)
Thank you!

OK, you don't want the USA, but WHERE? India? Bangladesh? China? Poland? Egypt? Congo? Brazil? Chile? Belize? Caymen Islands? Mexico? Or perhaps Australia? Where you send it for repair, assuming it can be repaired, will highly influence the time it takes and the cost. Last time I looked, London wages were a tad higher than Afghanistan. And of course, each country has it's own customs rules. You're welcome.

Does anyone know why the Acoustic Research AW-931 are so cheap?
VIntage Stereo

I don't know a lot about speakers. Why are these so cheap all of a sudden. They were a MSRP $169 speaker but now I have found them new for as little as $15 each and they are almost non-existant on ebay, whats the deal on these?

Hi. I did a quick search and found prices ranging from $15 to $79 each. So, i don't know what is going on. Maybe they are discontinued models.Back in the 60s AR (Acoustic Research) was a well respected American manufacturer of quality Speakers. They were the first to use the "Acoustic Suspension" principal of an airtight enclosure with a floppy speaker suspension which used the trapped air inside the box to support it. This resulted in a deep bass coming from a small enclosure. AR today is just a name.

hooking up old speakers
VIntage Stereo

i have a set of AR (acoustic research) speakers and i would like to hook them up to my akai mpc 1000. i have a mixer and just want the outputs to go to my speakers. the jacks on the speakers look like 2 holes, one black with a - under it and a white with a under it, with twisty things around the top to secure what u put in it. i need to get sound out of the speakers from my mpc. someone help me!!!

the old AR speakers are a good product but they are low effeciency, they soak up watts like a sponge. you will need at the very least a 40 watt rms amplifier to drive them. the only out from the drum machine is line level, so you will need to get a power amp.

Looking for the right receiver (or speakers)?
VIntage Stereo

I presently have a Denon DRA-685 which is (supposedly) a "bright" sounding receiver powering a pair of (cambridge, not audiovox) acoustic research S-50 speakers, which are also (supposedly) "bright" speakers.

I do hear sibilance when playing any of my sources (dvd, cd, cable box, computer) through my Denon DRA-685.

I really like my AR speakers.I am thinking of getting another receiver.

Does anybody have any input, based on what I wrote

Take a Yamaha processor home and try it. I think you'll be happy with that. If you can afford it, try the RX-V3900. If not, anything else in their nine. No one in the lower price ranges is doing a better job of uncolored, accurate sound reproduction.
