this question doesn't make sense, you mean like the range? Hz is a measure of frequency of sound, so im guessing you mean the highest and lowest frequencies it can play. the answer is about 40hz-19khz

I am replacing my Advent home stereo speakers .... and would like to know some quailty speakers to replace them with.

Hi and there are so many , but what kind of music will you be listening too . Do you have a surround sound . What kind of money do you want to spend . I have B&W on one surround system . Great but expensive . the other I have Bose . The bose for the money in either just listoning to music loud or soft are great . Also have that set up on my other surround . And they take up no space . Friends can't beleive such good music could come out of something that small . Older bose am 5's and am7's . Just tunes am 5's .They kick but and have never distorted .

I recently bought an Advent 7111 laptop and although it has stereo speakers, I have installed the drivers, they are up to date and the volume settings are all on full levels, the sound is distant and low and resembles the sound of a mobile phone loudspeaker rather than anything of a reasonable standard. External speakers do work perfectly when plugged in so I don't think anythinhg is wrong with the sound card seems but I'm sure the sound coming from the speakers should be better than this?

The speakers are pretty much useless in anything but a silent room and external speakers are just not for carrying around especially as they need another power source anyway. I'm hoping that this isn't the best that laptop speakers has to offer and a previous laptop I had had much better sound on worse speakers. I'm sure there must be an additional setting that needs fixing. Can anyone help?

May actually be a loose connection insdie the laptop causing it. Talk to your company's tech support. They can probably talk you through reconnecting the internal speakers or you can send it back and they can do it for you.

What are the symptoms that the capacitors in your vintage speakers have gone bad?

I've got Advent 5002 loudspeakers circa 1978 and they still sound wicked as the day I bought them, at least I think they still do. It's hard to compare since there are no new ones around and my audio memory isn't reliable after 30 years.

I've heard lots of talk about bad caps after so many years. If I replace them, what difference might I expect to hear? Is it worth the trouble?

The capacitors your asking about are part of the cross over circuitry. If they have gone bad you would hear a popping noise or no sound from one or more of the drivers. For example; you may hear nothing or a buzzing sound from the tweeters.
Yes those old capacitors tend to dry out over time but there is no need to change them out of hand.
You also can have the cross over circuit checked by a shop but that would cost a few bucks. If you know how to use a multimeter you can do a quick and dirty test of the caps.

I remember when I was 20....young and dumb (yeah, like the "dumb" part has changed much...)...I had read all of these great reviews for the Advent Prodigy II Tower, so I parted with $500 (in 1980's dollars) and bought a pair. They were dreadful. I knew even back then that they would not be ideally suited for hard rock, but the woofers popped and rattled at even the mere HINT of bass, and at modest volume levels too.

What was the last pair of home audio speakers that you were really disappointed with?

I spent $2600 on a pioneer system with tower speakers back in 1989. I still have it and have no complaints.

My friend had car speakers hooked up to his stereo. It sounded like crap.
