run your power wires on the opposite side of the car away from the amps RCA's. if you cant do that, try to keep them far enough away from eachother. also use good shielded wires for power & RCA's. dont let the rca's touch the cars ground (bare metal). set your amps gain after you max out your pre-amp (cd player) volume. that should help a lot. if all else fails buy a noise supressor they arent too expensive.

I've been having issues with my boat system for 2 years now. I have a marmot subwoofer with 6 speakers and two amps. One amp has back speakers and subwoofers hooked up and 4 speakers and XM on the other. The problem is sometimes by subwoofer and back speakers don't work, its like they go on work for a day then the next they don't. The amp is fine(Had it checked) and so are the speakers. I just don't know what else to do. The other problem is I hear the boats engine(When running) in the speakers. Like a loud whining noise. Hope someone can help and Thanks in advance.
First XM doesn't run off your amp, it is controlled by your deck. There could be several problems, if all you said was true about your gear the I would assume it is a volt age problem. Either a bad ground or simply low voltage. As far as the engine noise this could also be created by low voltage or if the amps or it wiring is ran or placed to close to your engine or other wiring in the boat. Engine noise can also be created from bad diodes in your alternator or cheap plug wires.
I recently had autobarn install my new sound system into my 99 CE Lancer. i had 6x9s on the parcel shelf and 6.5s in the front door aswel as 3 8"subs in a box with single output. I have a 5 channel Powervox amp powering them. There was a small whine coming from the speakers when the engine was running, increasing in loudness when the revs wer up. It was barely audible so i didnt worry. Then i decided to install 6x4s in the rear doors and i bought a Boss audio 4 channel from WOW. I installed the amp and everything fine, abd connected the 6x4s and 6x9s to the new amp, leaving the 6.5s n subs on the 5 channel.
However putting in the new amp increased the loudness of the engine whine ten fold. it is clearly audible unless blasting the sound. I got told i had a short in the rca leads so i swapped them over and it did nothing, i used stinger PRO3 leads at $30 each so they should be good quality.
my question is, what could be causing the whine? im not sure if its the rca leads, bt brand new 1s shouldnt have a short in them, the amps themselves or my head unit, a POS axis HU that came with the car. any help would be much appreciated. thx
Clean and tighten all of your battery and alternator connections. Also clean, inspect, and possibly replace your spark plugs, and spark plug wires. That kind of noise used to be common in aftermarket stereo equipment before the new distributor-less ignitions in autos.

Imagine this scenario: You've just graduated top of your class from a well-known college of loudspeakers. You aced all your courses and now you're ready to set the audio world on fire with what could be akin to the next Klipschorn or LS3/5. Job offers pour in, and you accept one with an up-and-coming speaker manufacturer. You stride into work Monday morning ready to do anything, when the boss calls you into a meeting and asks if you'd like to take the lead on a.... before he can finish, you've already volunteered and have visions of greatness dancing in your head. Then the sentence is allowed to air. “I want you to design a 2-way passive speaker in a cabinet no larger than 9x6x6.” Your smile lessens. “It needs to work with a range of equipment, from the newer digital amps to receivers that could be 30 years old.” Again, the smile shortens. “The speaker must sound good, whether played alone or as part of a surround system. The speaker needs be small, but it also must be robustly built. It must last – if it can't handle three years of customer use, don't bother.” The smile curls ever downward. “Lastly, it needs to retail for under $250.” You ask to use the restroom.
