What type of audio connectors do I need for these speakers?
Gold banana (100-3533)

I found some older speakers I had lying around, but I can't remember how I hooked them up anymore. I just want to know what plugs into these on the speakers.

Nice speakers! I have some model E Snells I bought 20+ years ago, and they are still some of the best speakers I have.

You can wire "normally" (single pair of wires to one black and one red post) or Bi-wire (see link) or bi-amp them by taking out the jumper. I have mine wired "normally" with banana plugs to one red and one black post (jumpers in). But speaker wires with lugs or pins or wire direct to the holes in the posts will all work.

Looking for Toslink connector optical audio speakers, as I am new to this.

For Toslink you need a Home Theater reciever.

I am looking for a cable to connect from my dvd player/ tv to my audio speakers?

I want to connect my (dvd, xbox, and tv) audio to my speakers(klipsch thx two speakers with a subwoofer) they all use the same normal audio cables. What is the connector called and how much am I looking to spend?

They are called RCA plugs. The red and white ones are for the left and right and the yellow one is for video. Probably only about $10 or less unless you want the gold tipped ones which run about $20 and supposedly have better performance.

Can I use speaker wire with RCA connectors to carry audio?

I have been told that given the option, RCA connectors were not designed to carry audio and banana style plugs are the better choice. What's the difference? Why are RCA connectors not the best for carrying audio?
the audio I am carrying is PC grade 5.1 surround speakers, 50W for the sub and 30 for the front and rear. Will RCA effect the quality of these?
I ask because PC surround speakers use 3.5mm connectors. After opening these up I found very thin wires similar to that found within RCA style cables. I was looking at extending these 3.5mm from the speakers another 15ft but found I was getting bad hum when using 3.5mm extensions. I was hoping long RCA or even speaker wire would remove the hum. Any thoughts?

"What's the difference? "

Speakers are MOTORS. You use 2 fairly thick wires to send power to these motors to convert electrical energy to mechanical.

So you use speaker wires and optionally use banana plugs on the end.

RCA plugs are used on the end of COAX. Coax is a thin center wire surrounded by a 'shield' of foil or mesh. Low power signals travel on the center wire and 0.000 volts is tied to the shield.

Coax is NOT designed to carry watts of power. RCA plugs are designed to mate with the coax.

Are connectors available to split a coax cable into an audio speaker connection?

I have a house pre-wired with coax cable for the purpose of distributing audio speakers around the house, but I cannot find a connector or adapter that splits the coax cable into the +/- wires so that I can connect the speakers

While an adapter to convert the coax into a +/- connector exists, I would not assume that the coax was installed for speakers. I would assume it was installed for television reception. Where does the coax run between? Does it come from a common point and run to various rooms. If so, I would say that this would be for TV. The common point would be the feed from the cable or satellite company. For speaker use, there would have to be 2 coax to each room, for left and right speakers.

The link below shows a coax adapter to seperate wires.

  • Kanex brings digital audio into a Display Port to HDMI adapter

When we published our " Ultimate Mac mini Home Theater " guide in August, I drooled along with everyone else at the idea of supercharging my HDTV with a mini for movie and music playback. Something nagged at me, though, as I looked over the options for going from the mini's video-out ports (the current model sports both DVI and Display Port) to the HDMI standard connector that most TVs expect nowadays... how to get that digital

Thats blatant false advertising on their part. SPDIF doesn't have the bandwidth to support Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master HD like their page claims it does. SPDIF only has the bandwidth to support Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and both variations of standard DTS....
