Whats a good car audio forum or message board?

I was just wondering what site, or sites, that are strictly for car audio. Subs, amps, speakers, etc. Maybe a site with experts on the subject, cause I have alot of questions, and it takes to long here.

Check it out. You can learn all you need without even having to post any questions! -It's that good!
I thought I knew a lot about car audio, that is until I signed up.

You're right, along with it taking too long here, MOST people have no idea what they're answering about.

How do I record audio that runs through my computer?

You know, like there is music i want to download off of myspace, but the download button is not there, so i just want a program that can record what is going through my PC speakers. Someone told me audacity would do it, and i have Audacity 1.2.4, but i cant do it.. Any help would be appreciated, even just directing me to another forum where others might be able to answer this.

Thanks

Would it help to bi-wire my speakers?

My speakers have bi-wiring posts. My amp has two sets of speakers outputs. Would it help sound quality to put a set of wires on each set of outputs, running one to each set of posts on the speakers? I've even heard of running two sets of wires from a single set of outputs to the bi-wiring posts on the speakers. Does this stuff actually help? Are there any good forums for this sort of specialty audio question?

You really want to avoid ever wiring two outputs of any amp to one destination. It may damage the amp. Amp outputs are designed to connect to a speaker, not another output.

Bi - wiring is a waste of wire and money. It is another one of those "audiophile" practices that is not based on any evidence of a real benefit.

Just wire each output of your amp to each speaker using one good quality speaker wire for each. Maybe 12 or 14 gauge.

What the other answer was describing was "bi-amping" where the highs go only to the tweeter and the lows only go to the woofer. That is different, and your speakers probably are not wired for that.

Subwoofer in 2005 Altima 3.5SL with Bose Audio?

I bought a 2005 Altima 3.5SL that came from the factory with the Bose audio option ... my question is this, I want to add my subs and amp from my old system, but keep the factory head unit. From what I've been able to find, the only way to do this is either to splice into the output at the back of the head unit to get the audio signal, or to run a line out converter from the rear speakers to the external amp. Either way I'm going to have to run a line out converter because my amp only accepts RCA input, and I'm assuming the bose head unit doesn't have RCA jacks. The problem with running from the rear speakers, is that they're wired through a bose amp, and I'm afraid the extra draw from the external amp will overwork, and eventually burn out the bose amp. and I can't find a wiring diagram for the bose head unit ... also somewhere I'm going to have to have a remote wire I'm assuming, although I did find a forum that said the grn/wht was the remote for the bose amp. Any suggestions?
Also, I forgot to mention, I'm running a Kicker ZR120 bridged, with dual 10" kicker impulse subs.

gonna be honest i know nothing about the bose systems, however... the man you want to talk to is a top contributor named Kaezoo.... look him up, send him a message with a link to this question, he will give sound advice. based on past answers i have seen from him, the bose system is a strange animal, and he knows the system well, and as a certified installer has delt with it professionally on many ocasions.

Why are bose speakers considered bad?

Before anyone answers this question; please don't if you aren't sure or do not fully know what you are talking about.

I am in the process of buying some new computer speakers for gaming, listening to music, and watching the occasional DVD.

I was considering buying the BOSE companion II system until I researched it a bit, and found out that bose aren't all they claim to be.

Many forums dedicated to audio based discussion topics warn that bose aren;t very good speakers for the money. On the contrary, they are severely overpriced, and do not have the performance to backup their pricetag. (I have heard one audiophile go as far to say that BOSE is an acronym for Buy Other Sound Equipment).

I was under the impression Bose speakers were the premium brand of speaker for the average joe (by that I mean excluding the super wealthy and those that need expensive sound systems for dj'ing, etc).

So, being a self proclaimed novice when it comes to sound systems, what would you recommend as a suitable sound system for my computer?

Ideally, I would like to spend no more than $100, but if there are other options you would recommend that are slightly over that, please list them and I will consider if the extra money is worth the extra performance.

Thanks,
NJZ

P.S. Two things:

1. I am using integrated sound as of right now, but in a few weeks I'll be buying a creative X-FI Xtremegamer sound card.

2. If you wouldn't mind, please list any links that would be helpful in making a decision. I will be researching this thoroughly (I'm one of those google-loving individuals) before anything anyway, but if you have the links available it would save me a bit of time.

Thank you,
NJZ
Ok, I have confirmation that Bose speakers, are infact, not worth the money.

My next question would be what would you suggest SPECIFICALLY?
(The brand and model would be appreciated)

Instead of looking for links you should be doing what the pros do to evaluate speakers. Listen to them. A critical listening of any speaker is necessary to fully evaluate them. One note that any PC designed system that you can have for the sub $500 range will have similar performance. If you want real sound than you need to look at a performance sound card, and a really good amp and speaker set. Since I do post editing sometimes I have a full studio set that I also use for a awesome PC sound system. Total cost around $2000 bucks (worth every penny btw)

  • speaker system help - All About Circuits Forum

Hi. I'm trying to build a small portable speaker system using 4 8ohm, 1watt speakers hooked up in parallel. The speaker system will accept input from a 3.5mm audio jack that can be connected to various mp3 players such as an ipod via a double male audio cable. I know that the maximum output voltage of an ipod is 1.110v RMS ( reference ), but I need roughly 2.8v at 0.35i to power the speakers at max volume. I've looked online at various op amps to amplify the signal but I'm yet to find one that meets these requirements. I actually just recently found this op amp ( LM675 ) that looks like it could work. I'm not experienced with these kinds of electronics at all so let me just get some confirmation...
