. I live near Winston-Salem, about 150 miles north of Charlotte. That's as close as I want to get! Charlotte and Raleigh are BIG cities! Of course you already know that, being near hwy. 485.
You speak Spanish? They'll love you there. Check out the ads @ http://www.charlotte.com/377 ; I think it's the same as the regular newspaper. Place a 'Job Wanted' ad there and use your email as an address.
The city is active. There are a few bad spots where you don't want to live or work, and a few 'bedroom communities' where it's deadly boring. Kind of like Miami, huh?
You're definitely going to miss the beach! You might want to think about going to Wilmington, a nice college town on the Coast.

Is it worth it to buy more expensive digital optical audio cables instead of generic ones?

Right now I have a Samsung home theater in a box, 5.1 surround sound. It's not a high-end system or anything, but it fits my needs/wants. I just switched all my RCA audio cables and replaced them all with digital optical audio cables. They sound great - I can really tell the difference, especially for video games. The sound is clearer and separated between the speakers a lot better.

Now, here's where my question starts to come into play. Because I have only one digital input and I have multiple devices using digital audio, I have to run everything through a source selector. I had to buy one audio cable each for the devices themselves (Xbox, PS2, and cable converter) to run to the source selector, and another one from the selector to the receiver itself. Because I need so many cables I went with cheaper ones.

But sometimes, the audio drops out or gets static, which is fixable but inconvenient/annoying. Could this be because I went with cheaper cables instead of high-end?

Cables arguably do make a difference. IMO, the largest difference will be when you're going from the cheapest cables to more expensive aftermarket cables with gold plated connectors. Then, you basically go up in price 10-fold to get twice the sound and video quality performance. Worth it if you are a die-hard audio/videophile, but not necessary if you just want good sound on a tight budget.

As you might expect, the higher quality your home theater is, the more you will benefit from higher quality cabling (i.e. your system is only as good as the weakest component in a basic sense).

An excellent value in the high-end cable market is from DH Labs (Silver Sonic). Much better performance than the well-known Monster Cable for about the same price. DH Labs has been known by audiophiles as a sleeper underground cable company for at least 10 years and have received rave reviews from professional reviewers (Soundstage.com) as well as private owners (Audioreview.com).

Rule of thumb... unless you're a die-hard for the best performance, just make sure you get cables with gold plated connectors and you should be fine.

Also, you might consider 75 Ohm digital coaxial SP/DIF cable as a formidable alternative to the Toslink optical digital audio cable if you have these connections available.

Ok what type of Audio receiver do I need if I want to connect my MP3 player to it?

I have 4 speakers I want to power with something that can read my mp3 player. These are ceiling speakers (4) rated @ 8ohms 60-120 watts. I can't seem to find an affordable receiver that has USB capabilities. Can I use a unit from a home theater system(They usually have usb connectivity)? I know i'll need a speaker selector, but I just can't believe receivers don't have a direct connection for USB? What are my options?

I want something to play background music, nothing fancy.

Can I basically use a cheap receiver $150 more or less and then connect a unit from a home theater system to send the signal via rca cables?

buy a jack like the one on headphone and then buy 2 RCA jacks and sauder the wires on to them.
so u need 3 wires left, right, ground
and plug into ipod and then playback on back of amp

u dont need a powerful amp 25 watts is ok

problems with dolby digital surround sound on the rca rt2250 a/v receiver?

I have a RCA RT2250 audio/video receiver hooked up with my TV and i can not get the 5.1 Surround Sound to work. The only 3 audio settings i can select are Pro Logic, Stereo, and 3 Stereo. I have had this system for a whlie and it really bugs me that i cant get the SURROUND SOUND to work. I have many speakers throughout my house connected through a speaker selector but i do not think that is the issue because when i hit the Test button for the speakers they ALL produce noise (one at a time of course). So i need someone to please help me. thanks.

the manual can be found here for reference.

The problem is not your receiver or your speakers , it's what you are trying to get from standard TV. You cannot get Dolby Digital surround sound from standard TV, it is broadcast in two channel or stereo sound only. HDTV is broadcast in Dolby Digital, so unless you have HDTV you cannot get Dolby Digital surround sound.
However if you switch from Dolby Digital to Dolby Pro-Logic 1 or 2, you should be able to hear some surround sound.

Speaker wiring in additional rooms off of Receiver?

I'm wiring my surround sound and would like to add additional speakers in different areas of my home... Instead of wiring pairs... can I run one wire and use a three-way speakers without any audio loss....i.e. stereo left and right speakers vs one three way speaker....Obviously it would be less wiring and less speakers to worry about with one speaker per room/area... can this be done? The receiver im wiring for is onkyo 606b and I have a 6 channel speaker selector... I do not want to play all at once... but be able to isolate music in certain rooms without them all being on... Thanks!
What im trying to say is I will use the receiver for 5.1 sound... I want to wire additional rooms for speakers.. the question i have is...do i have to wire two runs for paired speakers..or is there a solution for only running one wire...and using one speaker in each room? Or do I not have a choice and speakers MUST be paired in twos.

I don't think that you have worded your question clearly...

If I am understanding what you are asking, you would like to wire a three-way (ie woofer, mid-range & tweeter) speaker in place of the LF, RF, & center-channel speaker outputs.
If that is your goal, then the answer is NO! it won't work that way! It will lose audio.
I also doubt that the Onkyo that you are asking about can have six 'different-room outputs'... are you using an external 6-channel speaker selector?
(in fact, I just looked at all the specs & features for this Onkyo 605 replacement, & all it says is that it is a 7.1 channel surround receiver with bi-amping capabilities -running two speaker wires to same speaker- to increase power to that speaker, with powered & line-out zone 2 for separate source...)
Also, if you are considering using one speaker for the LH channel, & one for the RH channel, instead of usiing all seven surrounds to minimize wiring/speakers, then you won't have 'surround sound' but two-channel stereo.
And if you are asking if one three-way speaker can reproduce the audio of a stereo LH an RH speaker, then the answer would be NO again...
are you using an external 6-channel speaker selector?
IF I am understanding the question, then I'd have to ask: Why would someone buy a 7.1 channel Onkyo (what I own, BTW) & then use it as anything else?

  • How to Use Audio and Auto Save Preferences in Adobe Premiere Pro ...

The next preference we have is our Audio preference. All of these preferences are very detail oriented, when you are doing audio mixing. So I am going to refer to most of them doing the audio mix, but suffice to say that Automatch Time is only applicable when you are doing automation audio mixing. So when you are using the audio mixer, using the fade levels and using different read-write methods, you would refer back to the Automatch Time. We'll get to that in a later lesson of this series. One check-box in here that is very relevant, is the Play audio while scrubbing. That simply means that when you scrub on a clip, whether in the timeline or in the source monitor, you are going to hear that...
