Is it possible to make a stereo that plugs in its speakers through those black and red wires (I'm sorry, I'm not too technically savvy) play through, say, a DVD Player by a connector (which makes them connect to Audio Output cords (the red and white plugs you often get with DVD Players, have outlets on TVs, etc).
I've got a nice Sony stereo, and I cannot find anything with the same style that has audio output plugs instead of wires unless it's huge and/or expensive.
(Ideally, I want to get a new iMac with built-in Airport Extreme so I can buy another airport thingy with which to plug in my stereo; doing so, I can hopefully send music from the computer to the stereo speakers.)
It is possible. There are two ways you can go about this. First, the simple and cheap way, is to buy an adapter. You can find them at radio shack or place alike. If you buy an adapter, RCA to Speaker Wire, you will be able to go from the DVD player's RCA outputs to the speakers you want with the speaker wire connection.

Option 2, you can buy a nifty Home Theater Receiver, that has RCA inputs for all your home theatre devices, so that you can control all your audio signal with one unit, plus it has an output for the speaker wire. Downside, it could be pricy.
Now it is possible that there could be other conversion units or adapter type things that I have not encountered, but these two solutions might be the best for you.
As far as AirTunes, FYI, you can only play music from iTunes, not any other program on the computer.
how can i tell which of the two splits is the red (positive) one or black (negative) one??
Both wires are the same bronze color. One wire has letters on it the other one doesn't.
I can't trace it back because the wires are under a carpet, but I remember my dad used to follow the "standard" procedure of selecting which wire was which.. I know that the markings on one wire "usually" represent one color (red or black or pos and neg) and that is what I need to find out.
As long as you connect both ends the same, it doesn't matter which is positive and which is negative. All wires have something different on one of the two. Some have ridges, some have lettering, some are embossed. As long as you use the same on both sides, you are good.
ex: lettered side on the positive on the speaker and the lettered side on positive on the source, non-lettered side on the negative on the speaker and the non-lettered side on negative on the source.
Even if you don't get it right, you will only get a slight degradation of sound quality. For years, nobody used polarity and it mattered little.

So as of now i have 4 speakers in my 1997 Chrysler Sebring LXI being run by a Sony CDX-GT300. Two 6 by 8 speakers in the front door and two 6 by 9 speakers above the trunk behind the rear seat. What i want to do is splice the speaker wire from my rear speakers and add two more 6 by 9 speakers to go in my trunk. how would you suggest i do this? also will it decrease the quality and power to both sets of speakers?
There's no good way to do this without adding a separate amplifier.
If you wire them in parallel, you'll be reducing the total impedance to 2 ohms, and the deck won't tolerate that.
If you wire them in series, you'll be cutting the deck's output power in half, then splitting it between the speakers; so instead of two speakers getting 20 watts each, you'll have four speakers, each getting five watts.
If you want to add more speakers, you need to add an amplifier to power them.

I have 2 speakers which I want to connect to audio wire (Ive just cut that out from small headphones) so how to cennect those? there are 4 wires... 2 yellow and 2 black.
Looks like you want to connect speakers to a headphone output. Not a good idea.
It is not recommended to connect big speakers directly to the output - without a receiver/amplifier. The device simply can't drive them.
You can buy "powered" speakers that amplify a headphone output. - Look for PC speakers.
I've found that you can't make sound come out of audio speakers by wiring them up to the leads of a guitar through an amplifying op-amp circuit.
I can wire the guitar jack up and plug that into an amplifier, and that works. But how do I power my own speakers?
I resent having my question called naïve. Anyone can buy an old amplifier; I'm trying to learn how to build one myself. God knows my university isn't going to teach me something even half as useful.
Thanks so far, though.
You can purchase power op-amps from Apex Microtechnology Corporation, 5980 N. Shannon, Road, Tucson, Arizona 85741-5230 or contact them by e-mail ProdLit@TeamApex.com. Their products work well but need careful application (sockets, heat-sinks, by-pass capacitors, etc.) which is explained in their product literature.
From the naivety of your question, it appears to me that you would be better served purchasing a new or used "guitar amp" and connecting that to your speakers. They are readily available at many pawn shops, which may also let you "try before you buy".

Need help wiring amp to stock radio - Nissan Titan Forum
Hi there, im having some troubles with figuring out how to wire my amp to my stock radio. I bought an LOC but im not sure how to wire it. I see it has male rca plugs so i assume it plugs directly into the amp and i have to either splice it with speaker wires that are near by or splice longer cables to run it all the way to the radio. I removed the stock sub under the drivers seat. I mounted the LOC to the floor air duct. I then connected my LOC to the 4 wires that used to connect to the stock sub. However, my LOC has two female RCA ends, unlike yours that has 2 male ends. I ran the RCA cables to the back wall of the cab where the amp is mounted. Here are some pics:
