Best Stereo Speakers

I'm looking to get a pair to serve as rear speakers for my stereo system. Model recommendations would also be appreciated.

Look for the Boston Acoustics HD or CR series or a clean pair of ADS. Klipsch is OK, but stay away from Bose and Polk and most of the no-name brands. Other than that, it's a hit-and-miss game on eBay. There's lots of good used gear to be had at a great price on eBay, so just do your research and you should find a great pair within your price point.

I've basically decided which speakers I want, but I want to save myself some legwork in finding the best price out there. Is there a comprison style site that specialises in speakers?

There is a new comparison site that looks pretty good. They don't feature every item out there, but the ones they do are always seem the cheapest when you search further.

i just recently got a car, and i would like to replace the old crappy manufactured speakers and stereo thats in my car. I've heard pioneer is really good. What should i look for when i buy a stereo and speakers. I know i want loud and clear sound, as well as some good bass. Should i get a sub as well????

Pioneer are very good indeed. So are Kenwood.
You will have to find out what size the speakers are in your car at the moment so you know which size to look for. Then you can have a look around at some speakers and check the reviews.

You could get yourself a small sub woofer but this will be quite expensive and you'll also have to use some sound absorbing material for best sound and so you dont piss off everyone with the great big thudding of the subs.

This is for placement of the left and right front channel speakers on the same wall as the televison, facing the listeners and viewers.

Depends on the size of the room.. if you draw at triangle
speaker L - Speaker R- (centre of couch or viewer seat), the triangle distance should be equal. This will help the listner to get equal sound levels to his ears from both speakers. hope this help anwer your question. You should do the same thing for rear speakers if you have a 7.1 system like you saying !

I just have Bose stuff but I want to venture into other brands. Some years ago, Nobody Beats the Wiz used to carry Mission speakers and I thought they sounded pretty nice.

What models are great for highs and mids. I have a Velodyne 10" sub so bass is not my main focus with the speakers.

I would get a good pair of bookshelf speakers. You don't need the bass extension of a floorstander and you'll get more speaker for your money if you go bookshelf.

Investigate the Klipsch RB61 or KEF IQ3 or Polk RTi6 speakers. Throw in some good solid stands and you're set. Stay away from the Bose 301's.

If you're looking at used speakers then you could jump up a level in quality. You'll have to worry about how much they've been pushed though.
