Home Speakers Answers
I've got a simple surround sound setup in my living room with 2 rear speakers. Right now I have 2 lame cables strewn across my carpet in the middle of the room between the tv and the back of my couch. What's the best way to get these things out of the way? Is there a wireless solution? Should I just put the wires up along the corners of the room? Under the carpet? Any other ideas? Thanks!

Personally, I hate the sight of surround sound speakers. While some may like the look of the nice black, shiney cabinets all over the room, I think it adds more to the effect to have the cabinets hidden as well.
What ya do is mount the speakers in the rear of the room where it is difficult to see them. A dropped ceiling works great for this as you can just put them up above the dropped ceiling pointing down, (Lay them on thier face.) If the speaker is too heavy lay it across a junction point in the support rails. If you do this right and conceal the wires in a molding strip you really get the effect of sound "coming from nowhere".
If you don't have a dropped ceiling and must run wires along the baseboards, use flat cables and simply tuck them under the molding. But, camoflage the speakers wherever you put them. One way is to cover them in a piece of black felt. It looks good and even protects the speakers. Then you sit something decorative on top of them and it just looks like a little pedestal.
This may seem like a bit of trouble, but to me it's worth it just to have a surround sound system that is invisible. It really adds to the effect to look in the direction of a creepy sound and not see where it came from!

What is the best combination of surround sound speakers for music, and then for home theater for under $2500? What type of Receiver would I need with that?
$2500 is a good budget for speakers. The speakers that sound the best to you within your budget are the ones to get, but at that price I would go with M&K speakers and an HSU sub. M&K makes GREAT subs too, but they are pricey. HSU subs are without doubt the best value in subwoofers. Great subs. Low cost. If I had your budget the speakers below would be my choice:
M&K LCR750M2 Mains
M&K LCR750CM2 Center
M&K LCR 651 Rears
HSU VTF-3 MK3 Subwoofer
(I know this is a little above your budget but you will not regret the extra expense. When you consider how long you will have the system and how much you will enjoy it over that time it is a small expense. If you absolutely must stay within your budget both companies have other options.)
For speakers you may also consider the Monitor Audio silver series. M&K and Monitor sound quite different but both are outstanding.
For a receiver, I reccomend Denon, whatever brand speakers you get. You might consider the AVR2807. If you match that audio system with a comparable TV you will have a truly outstanding home theater on a reasonable budget!

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma (TH-42PX60U) and I just bought a Samsung Surround Sound System (HT-TX72), I was curious to know where should I place (in feet) the 2 front speakers as well as the 2 back speakers to make sure that I am getting the best sound. I have my couch set up about 8 feet away from the TV.
This guide shows in great depth the ideal placement of each speaker; http://www.soundstage.com/surrounded/sur rounded200307.htm

I want to buy some surround sound speakers for my TV. I want them to be cheap, but I also want them to work well. Does anybody have any experience with some or any ideas?
The best ones for you are the ones you can afford and have space for. I don't mean this sarcastically, just that it really does depend on what you call cheap.
Personally I'd look at something like this

paired with something like this

I think getting an amp makes most sense as you'll be able to route several other things through it like a DVD, console, iPod with the right lead etc. The speakers are fine for the money, but if you can afford better, consider it. loads of packages to choose from. You could even mix and match your own speaker set up but it may not be as discrete.
For example
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=ELTA-CONCEPT -MINI-BK as rears
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=GALE-3010S-B CH as fronts (or a second pair of the above)
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=KEF-CRESTA-2 0-BLK as a centre
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=ELTA-THUNDER -8 as a sub
could all be had for £130, plus £120 for the amp. Might not be top drawer, but I bet it would sound pretty fine for £250.
Look at places like Richer Sounds or Superfi online. Or go instore. They're all salesmen, so not saints, but they give decent advice and so long as you have a fixed budget in mind you won't get ripped off. Just don't let anyone talk you into spending £500 if the most you can afford is £300 etc.
(i dont know much about surround sound speakers). Also the tv has an optical out slot.
Thanks to anyone who can help!
I also dont want to spend much over £100.
best and cheapest dont go together, you will get good quality sound but when you turn up the volume it will start to struggle and break up.
