Bookshelf Speakers

I just got a helluva great deal on a pair of Bose 301 series bookshelf speakers (half price display model from Circuit City). What is the best setup possible (amp, DVD player, etc...) for using these speakers as a home theatre system?

Depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. For true 5.1 home theater surround, you will need 3 more speakers and a subwoofer.

If you just want to hear your TV shows out of the speakers, at the very least you'll need a receiver.

So in order to give you a better answer, people will need to know what it is you really want to accomplish and how much you want to spend.

I have a 400 watt yamaha receiver I need a 400 watt total power or little less . Does best buy mirage stores have good bookshelf speakers.

a 400 watt receiver with bookshelf speakers does not sound like a good match.

Unless you use a subwoofer, the any bookshelf speaker will sound bad.

But, to answer your question - Bose makes really good small speakers.

Hello,
I recently bought a pair of Acoustic Audio GX-350 bookshelf speakers on the cheap and I need to know how I can connect them to my tv. On the back of each speaker is a red and black lever. What should I buy to power them (500 watts each).

To my knowledge, you cannot connect speakers directly into a television. What you need is a receiver than they hook into. The red and black levers are used for speaker cables that would go into the back of the receiver. If you are just looking for a cheap receiver check online sites like ebay.com or even amazon.

I recommend Denon, Pioneer or Onkyo when getting a receiver.

Neither, they're simply small speakers that are intended to fit into a small space.

Generally they can be fairly good speakers, although due to small geometry, they don't always have good low frequency response.

I have a pair of 3-way (8" woofer, 4" mid & tweeter) stereo speakers that I have to place on book shelves. Since they are too tall to set up vertically, I will have to lay them on their side. My question is when setting them up horizontally on the shelf, what is the best orientation: tweeters toward the outside or tweeters on the inside?

This is actually an age old question and the answer is...it probably doesn't matter too much. I would experiment with the speakers trying it both ways. If you plan on sitting directly equal distance between the speakers, then "tweeters in" would probably give you a little more "high end" response. If you are not listening in one place then just have fun and experiment!
