Bookshelf Stereo Speakers

I have a pair of 3-way (8" woofer, 4" mid & tweeter) stereo speakers that I have to place on book shelves. Since they are too tall to set up vertically, I will have to lay them on their side. My question is when setting them up horizontally on the shelf, what is the best orientation: tweeters toward the outside or tweeters on the inside?

This is actually an age old question and the answer is...it probably doesn't matter too much. I would experiment with the speakers trying it both ways. If you plan on sitting directly equal distance between the speakers, then "tweeters in" would probably give you a little more "high end" response. If you are not listening in one place then just have fun and experiment!

I have some smaller models on my wall (less than 20#), but here's what I did:

I took screw-in hooks -- the kind that swivel, for the backs of picture frames, and screwed them into the 4 corners of the back of the speakers. Then I put pan-head screws in the wall with anchor bolts (or right into the stud) at the 4 places where the speaker corners would be. The alignment has to be pretty close. Make sure that the pan-heads fit into the swivel loops.

Then, simply hang the speaker on the wall.

Component system is old Kenwood KS-5500 (1976), but is mint. Has standard speaker wire (black & red) connections.

Hooking speakers up to an amp who ever heard of such a crazy thing!.

Yes you can just connect the wires it will either work or it won't not enough power goes through a speaker wire to do any damage.

If your speakers are direcly hooked up to a stereo and you want to hook up your computer to the stereo also to listen to the internet radio you will need a RCA to 1/8" stereo adapter.

It's unlikely that you shredded the cones. Take a 1.5 volt battery (any size) and wire to connect to the speakers. As you tap the wire to the battery, you'll hear the speaker click if the voice coil isn't blown. The usual problem if one speaker stops working is a loose connection. This is common in small diameter cables, and I have that problem right now with one of my computer speakers. The solution is to get a plug of the right size at Radio Shack and replace the offending plug, which you can find by bending the wire or jamming it into the plug. Or get a new wire with matching size plugs. If the only connection is a plug rather than screw terminals, you'll have to take the case apart to connect to the speaker terminals. But if that's the case, I'd bet there's a loose connection at a plug.
