Im using my old 100w Onkyo main speakers as surround sound speakers with my new receiver. The problem is they're a little bulky. I need to buy 2 separate surround sound speakers that are small without losing the sound quality. My main speakers are JBL e80 series. Where should I start?
e80's? Very nice. If your happy with the bass, mid and treble the mains put out then a modest pair of bookshelf size speakers should fill the bill nicely.
.
A lot depends on placement and room acoustics. I prefer ported speakers for home theater and acoustic suspension for listening to music. Either way, what you get should be accurate in the mid to high frequencies and have sharp (ported) rather than smooth response (acoustic suspension).
I would suggest a Polk 'R' series small speaker for smooth mids and trebles or a klipsch ksb if you like that crystal clear (sometimes harsh) horn sound.
Be sure and get a dealer agreement for a test drive. Try them out in different configurations and placements and if they blend well with your main's, you're good to go. If not, take them back, ask questions and try again.
.
Personally I wouldn't spend more that a hundred on a pair of surrounds. All you really need are good, strong mids and highs and you don't need to spend a fortune for that.
My setup.
Yamaha HTR 5140
Vintage Advent 5002's mains
Polk monitor 4's rears.
Although I've got a Klipsch RC3 center,
I just use my TV's built in speakers as center.
Sounds great once balanced with system.
No sub needed with the Advents.

I want to buy some surround sound speakers for my TV. I want them to be cheap, but I also want them to work well. Does anybody have any experience with some or any ideas?
The best ones for you are the ones you can afford and have space for. I don't mean this sarcastically, just that it really does depend on what you call cheap.
Personally I'd look at something like this

paired with something like this

I think getting an amp makes most sense as you'll be able to route several other things through it like a DVD, console, iPod with the right lead etc. The speakers are fine for the money, but if you can afford better, consider it. loads of packages to choose from. You could even mix and match your own speaker set up but it may not be as discrete.
For example
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=ELTA-CONCEPT -MINI-BK as rears
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=GALE-3010S-B CH as fronts (or a second pair of the above)
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=KEF-CRESTA-2 0-BLK as a centre
http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct. php?cda=showproduct&pid=ELTA-THUNDER -8 as a sub
could all be had for £130, plus £120 for the amp. Might not be top drawer, but I bet it would sound pretty fine for £250.
Look at places like Richer Sounds or Superfi online. Or go instore. They're all salesmen, so not saints, but they give decent advice and so long as you have a fixed budget in mind you won't get ripped off. Just don't let anyone talk you into spending £500 if the most you can afford is £300 etc.

i want to buy surround sound speakers for my hdtv
and i was wondering if the Sony Bravia DAVHDX466 Home Theatre is good
im buying them for sports (toronto maple leafs)
would they be good for that and enhance my experience
Your better off picking up some separates for a close price.
A JBL SC145.5 speaker system with a Pioneer receiver would be a close price, less if you bought it online refurbished, and would be substantially better sound quality.
Sony make great technology and great TV's, but their speakers, particularly the all in one units, leave much to be desired.

Hi I was thinking buying home theater surround sound speakers at Bestbuy. I am only thinking spending $600 or less & maybe Bose it is a good choice. Ok is there anything that I should I know before I buy one? Example, like warranty,HDMI port, supports True HD Sound or DTS? Thank you.
Yes I do need Audio receiver & 5 or 7 speakers.
First of all, Best Buy, not so good. You could likely do better, with a wider choice of good quality speaker makers, by looking for gear on amazon.com. Plus, they offer free shipping on some equipment, and usually it also means no sales tax (Unless you live in NY State).
Now, do you need a home theatre receiver *and* a set of HT speakers, or just the speakers ?
On amazon, you can get a great Polk 5.1 speaker system, #6750, 6 speakers, list price $600, for about $250. If you need to make that into a 7.1 system, just add two more Polk speakers, such as the #6751s for about $60 each.
They have available 7.1 receivers such as the Onkyo TX-SR575, list price $400, for $220.36, with free shipping.
In speakers, Polk, Infinity & JBL are really good brands, and in receivers, Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, and Onkyo are among the best for good quality.
So, if you got the items that I listed, you'd have a name brand system, with 8 speakers and a great 7.1 receiver, for just about $600.
Bose is good, but its way overpriced. You pay for their name and their styling.
Buying new from amazon gets you full manufacturers warranties, and the rest is what you want your gear to have. So, if you want HDMI connections, them read the product descriptions so as to see how many ins and outs of each type the receivers that you look at have. The speakers only will have their standard connections. With them, get some good quality standard 16 gauge speaker wire. Theres no need for expensive premium wires.
i want full 5.1 dd surround whats the cheapest way
why dont you buy the playstation2 surround sound speaker set? ive seen alot of them around recently. plus they will be cheap because people have now got the Wii and The Xbox 360
