I will be using it with a Cambridge Audio amp, and Monitor Audio speakers with decent interconnects. Im not fussed about gadgets on it, just want a good sounding CD player.

As you already have a Cambridge Audio amp, take a look at the matching Azur 540C V.2 CD player, at £200.

It will match the amp sonically and visually.

** I ALREADY POSTED THIS. I don't have a sound card though, and that was the answer i was getting. I also messed around with all the settings on my computer for my realtek hd audio manager and the default windows sound settings.**

I have nice cambridge soundworks speakers, and they used to work fine. When they're plugged into my iPod, they work perfectly, but when they're plugged into my computer (playing the same song) they're fuzzy and crackle when i play loud or bassy noises. This doesn't happen even at max volume on my ipod and speaker volume up high. I downloaded the sound drivers for my mobo, and no luck.

certain files are bigger on your desktop computer than those on your ipod

it may take longer to process and make the sound crackle

their systems are different (the ones that are being used to play the song)

or there can be dust in the speakers

Ok i'm looking to buy a new hi-fi system... to begin with a new cd player since mine is dead. Right now i have an old Sansui 2000x with Celestion ditton 15 speaker.i listen to rock, pop and most of 70-80 music including blues and jazz. I listen to most type of music ... i was thinking of cambridge audio or Arcam... which one is best? Are there other good brand of Hi-Fi component?

Hi ---- I have a real low opinion of home Hi-Fi loudspeakers.... You pay big $$$ for them and they are worthless a couple of years later... Consider a pair of commercial grade studio monitor loudspeakers..... JBL, Tannoy, Yamaha and other company's come to mind. NOT the consumer stuff but the commercial stuff... If you ever want to trade them or sell them there will be a lot of people lining up to purchase these....

My amplifier has sound in one channel.When you connect a speaker to it, it makes a thump noise, so it has some sort of signal going to it.
I think what happened is that my toddler pulled the wire from the speaker and it shorted. I have checked the glass fuses inside and they are ok. Does anyone know if this can be fixed and how much will it cost about? As I not in the position to buy new at the moment, and I'm missing my music. Thanks for any help.

It sounds like the amp needs repair. The thump may mean that the amp is now producing a small DC voltage after being damaged by the short. That is a nice amp, so it is probably worth fixing.
