Info about car stereo systems!? speakers?

okay, i have a somewhat old little car and my speakers are basically shot. so im needing new ones. but i know absolutely nothing about what to look for. im planning on getting something much better then what i had, witch im guessing were just basic crappy speakers since they blew out like a week after getting the car. so i was looking at the circut city web site and i realized its not just as simple as "speakers" theres like.. amplifiers? woofers sub woofers vents? rms? i dont even know.. so if someone could untra-simplify this stuff for me it would be much apreciated. aslo what are good speakers to get im looking for it all to come to between 100-200 dollars

All that stuff you mentioned is like aftermarket stuff for car sterio.

There are subwoofers, which produce a lot of bass, which require an amplifier, the source of power to the sub. Vents are just so air can get in and out. Vented, or ported subs let air out but are not as crisp, closed subs arent as loud and are more crisp. Subs arent necessary, only for people who like lots of boom-boom.

RMS is the term referring to how many watts the speaker or sub can produce. if you are looking for just speakers I would first check to see if your head unit (or radio) is in good shape.

A good head unit will produce around 20 watts per channel, or 20 watts for each speaker. Anything above that is better.

Now regular speakers are pretty cheap, you can get no name stock replacements for $50, but if you want brand names, good brands for audio include MTX (mainly subs), Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, Infiniti, Bose, JBL, and JL Audio.

Buzzing Sound in Car Stereo Speakers when Revving Engine?

For over a week I was hearing a buzzing sound through my 1998 Ford Mustang V6’s stereo speakers. This would occur whenever I would rev (hit the gas) the engine. At first I thought that the speakers might be going bad. So last night the red battery indicator light came on. So I thought the Sears Die Hard Gold Battery was going bad. I have had the battery since about 2001. The battery gage was fine and had never gone down past the normal section. I do NOT have any modifications on the car stereo system.

I asked a mechanic friend and told him about the buzzing sound in the stereo system when revving up the engine. He told me that the alternator is going bad and that the red light coming on means that it is no longer able to charge. He told me not to drive the car any further until I get the alternator replaced because the car would most likely die on me.

Does any one have any thoughts on this issue?
Again I do NOT have any stereo modifications. It is the STOCK stereo. The batter indicator would not come on because I had a lose ground wire for the stereo.

The mechanic friend said that the ALERANTOR is GOING BAD not that it has completely stoped working. He stated that it is no longer charging, which means that the car is just living off whatever remaining power is left in the battery.
Also the buzzing occurs only when the Radio is on and not the CD player.
I appreciate the answers that people are providing. But once again I have done NO MODIFICATIONS to the STOCK stereo system. I can see the noise suppressor probably stopping the buzzing in the speakers but how will a noise suppressor fix the problem with the batter light indicator and the battery indicator showing the charge on the battery going down? Are people really screwing around with their stereo systems that much just to get that extra wattage?

It appears that it is more than likely the ALTERNATOR.
The mechanic person I know replaced the alternator and that was the problem. When I got to the mechanic’s shop I parked and turned off the engine. When he told me to move the car, the engine would no longer start. He used a battery charger to jump start the car so he could get it into the shop. He changed the alternator, oil and power steering fluid and now I hear NO buzzing/humming sound any longer when the radio is on and the battery indicator is gone and the battery meter is back to normal.

The problem had NOTHING to do with the stock stereo system. I did NOTHING to the stereo system ever. The humming was being picked up by the radio and it NEVER occurred when the CD player was on just during radio play.

Final outcome it was the ALTERNATOR! Thank God that I didn't go out and buy a new battery because it would have been a waste of MONEY.

Thanks for your replies!!!

Sounds about right. A bad alternator can do weird things. That is just an example of one of them.

Does this sound like a good setup for a car stereo speaker system?

I purchased 2 12'' subwoofers, an 2000watt amp, and some tweeters.

I drive an '03 Mustang, so is what i bought going to be a good system for my car or do i need something else?

* I have a box and wires already

It sound ok... It doesn't sound like you have any highs meaning no speakers like 6x9's... If you have only tweeters and subwoofers the voice quality isn't going to be great at all.. Your going to aheva lot of bass and clearity but no voice.. I recommend getting some of those as well

how do i play my ipod shuffle through my car speakers without a stereo system/reciever??

My car radio keeps getting stolen. is there any way i can hook up my ipod shuffle to my car's speakers by using the shuffle's headphone jack so i can listen to music when i drive without buying a cd player.

Iʻve never tried but, if you have an amp running you speakers, technically you could just plug the iPod into the RCAs with an adapter. I could be wrong though. And it will probably sound like crap.

Can you put house stereo system speakers in your car?

If so how and would you need an amp if they are really big speakers?

Usually no not without some trouble. Most home speakers are 8 ohm and most car stuff set to run 2 or 4 ohm. It could turn into a big headache.
