Ceiling Speakers for mp3 music in our house, Can I use Car Speakers or what recomendations within a budget?

I want to setup Ceiling Speakers in 3 Rooms ( 2 in each ) and a pair outside under cover so I can play my mp3 music throughout the house. Any recomendations ( without spending a fortune ) on Speakers and software. Thank You in advance

as long as the total number of speakers dosen't exceed the rating of the audio system that you are planing on running the music on, you'd probably be best goining into an electronics shop where you probably would be getting the speakers from anyway and speak to them about the details and which speakers would be best. other than that it sounds like a bloody good idea

How can I hook up ceiling speakers to an amp and a reciever so I can listen to an Ipod throughout the house?

I have 26 ceiling speakers installed in my house. They are 5 1/4 90 watt speakers. Do I hook them all up to at speaker selector then to a 300 watt amp then to a receiver in case I want to listen to the radio? I also want to be able to listen to my ipod through the speakers. This will be strictly for background music throughout the house.

I'm assuming by 26 speakers you mean 13 pairs of speakers, but if some are single speakers with dual tweeters, that counts as one channel in a speaker selector or distribution amp.
The first thing to do is to decide is whether you want separate zones in the house that will allow you to play different sources in different zones - for example - the family room may be one zone, master bedroom is another zone, backyard is another zone, living room and hallways, dining room, bedrooms, etc.
If you decide you want just one zone throughout the house then you can get away with speaker selectors like this one that will handle 12 pairs of speakers, then add an additional selector for the rest.

Of course this gives you no control over the volume for each pair of speakers, so I hope you have volume controls or touchpads for each pair of speakers.
Also, keep in mind that impedance is a huge issue with all those speakers. You need a high quality speaker selector that will provide the proper load to the receiver or you'll fry the receiver. Russound makes good stuff for a decent price, Niles makes excellent audio distribution equipment www.nilesaudio.com

The other way to go is dedicated distribution amplifiers like one of these:
http://russound.com/amplifiers.htm
The biggest one only handles 12 speakers, so you'd need two of them, plus a smaller one for your additional speakers.

Many systems this size are 70 volt systems that have impedance matching transformers at each speaker, but that's a dedicated system with 70 volt capability, not a regular receiver/selector.
If your system was smaller, I'd recommend a multiple receiver approach like I use, but I only have 12 speakers in my system so 3 receivers powers them fine.

What I would recommend is to hire a custom installation consultant for and hour or two to walk you through your various options. That's a lot of speakers to hook up so it would pay to have an expert look at what you have and make recommendations.

Where do I place ceiling speakers in my living room?

I have two ceiling speakers that I"m looking to use for just general music listening. I have a long room, about 35' long, which is a combined living room / dining room. There is no one spot that I plan to sit and listen; sometimes I'll be in the dining room area, sometimes in the living room. Where would be a good place to place the two speakers? Right in the middle of the room? On one end and on the other?

i'll have to agree with the guy above me with 4 in each corner or 1 in each room

Who has the best Home (interior) ceiling speakers?

I am remodeling my house and would like who has the best home interior ceiling/wall speakers pound for pound. I would like a good speaker without going over board. The dimensions of the room are 20x11. How many do I need? The speakers will be use for home entertainment i.e listening to music, movies and t.v..

Definitive Technology has a very highly rated ceiling speaker. The Reference In-Ceiling Speaker (UIW RCS II) in fact all their inwall speakers are nice.

Sonance makes nice in wall / ceiling speakers too as does Niles.

I would get enough speakers to provide you with at least 5.1 surround sound.
That would be 5 inwall/ceiling and 1 or 2 subs.

I recommend you actually go to a specialty shop that sells Definitive, Niles or Sonance and talk to them. Do not go to Best Buy or Circuit City. You will not get the best advice from them.
Tell them your budget and they should be able to provide you with a the best solution within that budget. Even if they do not sell anything in your budget they will give you an alternative. They won't steer you wrong.

  • Buy Cheap Home Speakers

  • choosing ceiling speakers

For those who want the highest quality sound system in their entertainment room but are faced with the problem of small spaces, ceiling speakers may be the solution for you. The ceiling is the most underutilized part of a home or studio, as this space is typically inaccessible. However, with a little investment, it is possible to transform a room into an entertainment dream come true through the proper installation and use of ceiling speakers.

Before you purchase ceiling speakers, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. First, these speakers require a lot of wiring work to be installed. Unlike standard standing speakers strategically placed in a room, you need to run wires through the ceiling in order to power the speakers and hook them into a control switch. Unlike standard speakers, ceiling speakers are typically wired into a control panel, similar to a light switch, that controls the volume of the speakers from the wall. From the wall, the speaker system is hooked into the entertainment system. There are several benefits to this. First, you can unhook the ceiling speakers from the entertainment system at anytime to lower the number of speakers in use. As well, this allows you to choose whether or not you wish to use a floor bound surround system or the ceiling speakers at leisure.
