my new house has 5 pre-wired outlets on the ceiling that the previous had installed as a option . still covered with switch plates . any suggestion for reasonable quality speakers? thank you all!
The first bridge to cross is if you want surface mounted - or flush mount (internal to wall) speakers. Surface mount then come in variety of styles depending on your aesthetic versus audio expectations. Despite what Bose et. al. say, "satellite" speakers do not have the dispersion or sound of "boxes." Head off to Tweeter, Best Buy, etc. w/cup of coffee and sit in their sound rooms. Flush mount - BIC is inexpensive and is a good value. Check on E-Bay first. Install largest woofer size your cavity will accept - and best if mid-range and tweeters are seperate cones in frame.

In my new house, there are speakers already installed in the ceiling. Can I connect these 4 speakers to my Bose 321 system or do I have to buy a new receiver? Where do I get instructions on how to do that?
The 321 will NOT support those speakers in the ceiling the 321 is a stand alone system. A Bose Lifestyle system (5.1 home theater) can support 14 additional rooms and could possibly link to your 321 as another zone too. Look for a Bose Link connection in the back of the 321 media center. and your ceiling speakers would need a Bose amp and remote.

I have a banquet hall that has ceiling speakers for my PA system. There are two speakers out of the 8 that when I pass under them they Squak and squeal - feedback. What could be the reason and what can I do to fix it?
There are only 2 speakers that do it out of them all. Is there something that I can add to the wire to those speakers or the speakers themselves? Could it be fixed with a better quality mic or will that be a waste of money?
Amy - As the other person said, you are getting feedback. The reason those two speakers are getting it more may be how they are wired. In an overhead speaker system, all the speakers need to be wired the same. Overhead speakers have little transformers with different "taps" that vary the volume for that speaker. I suspect that those two speakers are on different "taps". You may want to call the company that did the speaker system to come in and check the "taps".
A better mic may help, but I would check the speaker "taps" first.
Here is a great link on feedback:

By the way, speaking in a lower volume does nothing for feedback. It actually can make it worse because you need to turn the volume UP when someone does that creating MORE feedback.

I have two ceiling speakers that I"m looking to use for just general music listening. I have a long room, about 35' long, which is a combined living room / dining room. There is no one spot that I plan to sit and listen; sometimes I'll be in the dining room area, sometimes in the living room. Where would be a good place to place the two speakers? Right in the middle of the room? On one end and on the other?
i'll have to agree with the guy above me with 4 in each corner or 1 in each room
My home is pre-wired for speakers. Now that I have cut the hole in the ceilings and I'm ready to connect speaker, I realize speaker has positive and negative, but there is only one wire coming out of ceiling. What do I do?
It may look like one wire but if you pull back the insulation are there two different wires wound together? If so you just use those. Otherwise you can not hook it up correctly. Speakers require the + and - to be able to move the speaker with the electro-magnet. If you only have one wire you have no way to alternate the power.
