I have 2 100W @ 8ohm monitors (speakers) and I have a cheap home stereo rated at 80W @ 6ohms. My question is how could I wire them to get the highest possible power output and still achieve a stereo image?
Both speakers have the usual +/- terminals and my home stereo has 4 terminals a Left +/- and a Right +/-.
I was thinking maybe parallel wiring them? any ideas
I know a home stereo is not the best solution to powering these monitors but for now I don't really have a choice. I am working with what I have, buying an amp is not a choice right now.
Place one speaker on each channel unless you want to ruin your stereo system. You have two each 8 ohm speakers on a 6 ohm system. That is a pretty good match if not an exact match. But two 8 ohm speakers in parallel would be 4 ohms which might load down your stereo system. And then their would be the problem of no speaker for the other channel (left or right). And connecting the left and the right together would most likely damage the stereo system (especially anything that powerful, would not damage the cheap low wattage ones but yours is 80 watts). Just connect one speaker to the left channel and one to the right channel.

I have a Yamaha TT-400U turntable which is currently hooked up to some cheap ol' Creative computer speakers. I'd like to get a quality, relatively cheap, stereo system which I could hook the turntable up to. Any suggestions?

You should be able to find something reasonable on ebay.
Best of luck

I'd like to have a set of stereo speakers for casual listening. They don't have to be great quality - just enough to actually project (which my laptop doesn't do well) and give me a little bit of balance (which I only get with headphones). I want to be able to hook them directly up to a laptop or MP3 player using an aux in or headphone style jack.
Thinking $50 at the most, but any information is excellent.
Ebay lists a couple of good price speakers. But then again if you're not into internet shopping or auctions i can be a bit hard.
If you live in the United States there is always Walmart that as a range of cheap speakers.
But honnestly you can find a pair of casual listening speakers with auxin/headphone jack at any electrical outlet.
Time to go shopping!
I was browsing Best Buy's website for cheap speakers for my computer, but then it occurred to me that my old television has poor sound (no stereo), so I was curious...can I hook up speakers intended for my computer to my TV/cable box/DVD player, as well? Not only are most of the computer speaker sets way cheaper, but I don't need two sets of speakers and I'd like them to be interchangeable.
Would most speakers work? If not, anybody know of ones that, by design, will work with pretty much anything?
If your television has a headphone jack, then any desktop computer speaker will work. Just plug 'em in.
