When people comment on the functionality of a speaker, they used the term "music" in Amazon.com. I am interested in Bose 2.1 or 5.1. I will mainly use the speaker for listening to piano solo, orchestra music or arias from Pandora.com. Any suggestion? Quality goes before $$$.
While the Bose stuff sounds good at first it does get very tiring to listen to. Then again you're listening through a computer, so it's not like using a McIintosh Amplifier and Klipsch La Scala II or Heresy III speakers is going to do you any good. (or any other Reference standard equipment.)

My dad, who is mentally ill with ADHD, OCD and severe depression, spends most of his entire waking hours pacing around the house and humming incessantly. To fight this, I blast classical music through the computer's speakers. I do this mostly to drown out the sound of his humming (which is absolutely insufferable, and which borders on psychological torture) but also because I feel/hope that the classical music could have a calming effect on him.
But it doesn't work. Every time I turn on the music, he turns it back off again. He says he can't stand it.
I have seen no evidence whatsoever that piping classical music into the rooms of our home has any effect on his disgusting behavior and habits.
I would at least like to be able to drown out the sound, but even when I'm wearing headphones, I can still hear him. Besides, by wearing headphones and listening to music at loud volumes, I'm unncessarily risking hearing damage.
Your father simply doesn't want to be calmed or soothed, which explains why he can't put up with the music. Too bad you have to put up with his humming though.

I have a small room and I am looking for a good set of speakers to hear music. I have all kinds of music, specially latin and classical. I want something in the range of 50 to 100 dollars.
Thanks
LOGITECH Z-2300.... you'll love the Logitech Z-2300, a 2.1 speaker system that combines everything you need in a sound system: THX-certified performance and quality, beautiful looks, and more than enough power to fill your room with great sound.
My interest is in listening to music particularly classical music. Film songs OK. I like Latin music, Flamenco ,Jamaican.
I do not play games at all (at the moment ).I do not prefer computer to see movies .
If you want listen good music
first buy creative soudblaster 24 bit card or Audigy Live cost about 2000 rs.(onboard sound card is 16 bit)
24 bit makes the difference
and then buy creative inspire 2.1. or if you want real sorround sound effect. buy a creative 5.1 speakers.
I'm looking for new speakers for my computer. The previous ones were ok, just standard run-of-the-mill speakers which I had for 9 years or so. Last year I bought a pair of Grado headphones (whose sound quality is just amazing), and I don't want to go back to some crappy computer speaker you can buy at any electronics store for 30 euros. I basically want the equivalent of my Grados, in speaker form.
Please no suggestions for Bose, I find them grossly overrated; their sound sounds distorted to make some soungs sound better, but when compared to faithfully reproducing headphones/speakers they do not match up. I don't need something with a huge subwoofer and tons of bass to compensate for crappy sound (Bose), just something on which classical/jazz or most other types of music will sound good.
Price range is around 100-300 euros.
Thank you.
Try Klipsch I have always liked what they offer for Home and Multimedia speakers. I have the promedia 2.1 set.
I hate Bose as well.

Radio signals?
Radio signals?
Okay, so last Saturday i was sitting in my room surfing the net on my computer at about 2 a.m. and i started to hear voices. I immediately though it must either be my radio alarm clock or my computer, i turned the volume off on my speakers and it still played, so i went over and checked my alarm, it too was off. The sound was still playing, it was some sort of christian mumbo-jumbo preaching crap. I looked all over my room for any electronics that could play it with no success before finally realizing the sound was coming from my (Turned off) computer speakers. I have satelite internet so i’m curious if maybe i am intercepting signals from radio broadcasts or something or other, if thats possible… But it still happens from time to time since saturday. Everyday at random times i hear radio broadcasts (usually a few days old) from around the world. I heard some from netherlands, germany, and russia last night. I’m curious, what could possibly be causing this? Out of space, will add mor I went into my brothers room and plugged some speakers into his computer to see if it worked on his computer too, and it in fact did. He was picking up classical music. Keep in mind these signals are usually so quiet you wouldnt normally hear them unless you were listening with the speaker to your ear. But at times they get loud and you can hear them clearly. Entirely possible that your satellite internet is at the basis of this phenomenon. There have been repoorts of many things picking up radio signals, including people’s teeth! So the dish could be picking up AM or SW signals on an atmospheric bounce of some sort. You might also be picking up XM,Sirius or Worldspace satellite radio signals – or television signals from afar. If everything is off, that adds to the mystery, but speakers are speakers, the on/off switch on computer speakers is for the amplifier. The speakers will still vibrate and create low-volume sound with or without power.
