Altec Lansing Surround Sound Computer Speakers?
Day 046

I just bought a surround sound speaker system from someone for my computer. When I turn it on it makes a horrible humming and static noise through all of the speakers even though the speakers themselves are turned all the way down as is the sub. Is it just irreparably broken? Is it a fuse problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to have to throw it away right after getting it.

Do you have the wires connected correctly? Sounds like you have it hooked to an input rather than an output.

Need some help, involving my computer's surround sound speakers.?

I have five speakers and a sub woofer. I have no place to place them the way they should be: Two at fron two at back and the middle speaker then the sub woofer. So i did this: I placed the two speakers on one speaker platform on my computers desk and two on the right platform. Then the middl speaker near the monitor and the sub woofer at the bottom. Is this alright, will the sound be affected in anyway? I know there suppose to be "surround sound" but i have no room around my room.

No problem
You wont get the rear left and rear right sound effects.

and right front speakers to produce any sound. All the drivers appear to be updated properly and the red and black connections. I have a brand new Xfi Fatalty Pro card and Vista. Ihad everything working last week until I reformatted my PC again. What can I do to solve the problem? Thanks!

1. Uninstall all the Creative Soundcard from device manager.
2. Uninstall all Creative software not just the drivers as the software does install additional software
3. Turn off computer but do no restart as of yet. Windows may be using generic drives and not hardware specific ones.
4. Check the speaker connections into the sound card making sure you are not plugging them into say aux device or mic ect,
5. Turn on again and reinstall the Creative Sound card using your install CD making sure you are using the Vista drivers.
6. Reboot
7. Go to the Creative site and update your Creative drivers and applications. There is an option to install an active x control that allows the site to scan your computer and choose the correct updates for you or you can do it manually.

Surround Sound Computer Speakers with Xbox 360?
New Dell 24" Monitor (5)

I have logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers and a 22 inch HDMI monito. I am going to hook my Xbox 360 into this 22 inch HDMI monitor but dont want to use the two HORRIBLE speakers that are built into the monitor, I want to use my surround sound. Since I am hooking up VIA HDMI doesn't the sound travel via HDMI to the monitor? Or is there a seperate sound channel that needs to be hooked up, in which case I can just plug it into my surround sound speakers. So all in all I am asking if HDMI transfers both sound and video or just video and if it transfers both then can I hook up my surround sound?

Yes, HDMI will carry both the sound and video.

If your TV has an output, feed this to your Logitech systems.

But check the cable that comes out of the xbox. Mine has a Toslink optical jack that I run straight to a spare input on my receiver. You may need to do this if your TV only has L/R outputs and not coaxial/optical for 5.1 sound.

PS: I'm looking forward to the Simpsons game tomorrow.

Is it possible to use computer surround sound speakers with my hdtv?
New Dell 24" Monitor (2)

I am looking at getting an inexpensive surround sound set. The room I will be using them will be be pretty small. I was wondering if I buy a computer surround sound set, say the Logitech X-540 5.1 Speaker System, would this be better then getting an equally priced 5.1 home theater surround sound set? I will be specifically using them for movie watching and for my xbox 360.
If I were to get a receiver to go along with the logitech system, and hook the hdtv through the receiver, would I then be able to get true 5.1 surround sound. The tv link provided has the same connections as my tv.

The Logitech system is proprietary to a PC and requires one to operate properly. Some here have suggested you can just run the signals from a source with some home made cables but you don't get any of the necessary re-eqing features of receiver. I would suggest that you stick to the HTIB set ups vs. a rube goldberg set up with the PC speakers.

I am very disappointed. The subwoofer is a continuous noise that sounds like wind blowing through it, with a boom now and then like thunder. This terrible noise happens when you turn on the single master console before they listen to music and is one of noise during the music. I just need to discard it and use my old Altec Lansing speakers. I called customer service Abt Logitech is the best we could do was to tell me that my sound card was probably bad. Well, if so, why two other groups of speakers work well with him?
